    I worked at Turner Construction

    Pros

Good Company as stated by ENR.

    Cons

The HR does not have the very basic professional decency to tell their interviewed candidates about their results. It took me 3 months to get an answer about my interview and by then I was zoo tired that I had to beg them to actually reject me and put a closure to all this.
No coordination between the HR and the Hiring Management Team as they interview international candidates and then tell them that they do not hire people who need sponsorship. The point is international students with 29 months of work visa have the right to work here in USA. But they would prefer local candidates which to me seems like give them the guarantee that they will devote their life to the company. Where as international candidates are even willing to sign a contract that they will stick with that company for a min. of 29 months. I just don't get their view point and I am open to discussion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please don't claim EEO. and Tell your HR team to be a little well versed with the hiring policies for international students.

    Pros

Great work ethic from everyone, a lot of employee appreciation, room for improvement and open door policy, ever changing and innovative

    Cons

A lot of hiccups with the shift to a new integrated system software, no efficient and practical procedures but constantly improving

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to focus more on productivity and small picture and not always the big picture so everyone benefits from efficient solutions

Great experiences and one of a kind project exposure.

Company is big and spread out. Going up the corporate ladder is challenging due to timing and old school management due to the nature of construction.

I worked at Turner Construction full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Superiors and co-workers have an open-door policy to help you in your learning and in any questions you may have on your expectations. All members of the company feel like a family, as they will always provide help so you won't fail. Excellent company events and lunches where company members can "let loose", and you would feel spoiled at times. All employees I've worked with were down to earth and interested in getting to know you on a personal level. Compensation was fair, and I consider the work experience to be amazing and practical in developing soft skills that are an asset for any career.

    Cons

The biggest challenge is maintaining a work-life balance. There is stress created externally sometimes by clients or subcontractors, but I have never felt stress from internally in the company such as from a superior or coworker. As it is a large company, you sometimes need to contact multiple people to complete a company form or task.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Turner is comprised of many successful offices among the country. Teams should be encouraged to reach out to other offices who have experience in similar construction projects. Improve efforts to encourage a work-life balance. Some of the online database tools can be optimized to reduce the time required to process and archive reports.

I have been working at Turner Construction full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Understanding general contracting and relationship-building with subcontractors. Allows for opportunities above and beyond responsibilities. Lots of opportunities for internal training

    Cons

Horizontal structure and not a lot of room for career growth; leadership is not always transparent in where they want to improve as a business

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep offering company training and be more transparent on a regular basis on where the company is headed.
