I have been working at Turner Construction full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Best reputation in industry. Some great experts. Flexibility is available, if you request it. If you are passionate about construction, there is no better place to start.

    Cons

Bogged down with politics, bureaucracy, red tape. People are transferred often, and when you transfer, you start all over again, it is almost like changing companies. To get ahead you must have a sponsor. Some of the old school values still apply, come early/leave late. Not enough focus on results and productivity. Work/life balance and flexibility come at a steep price, and workload remains the same.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop talking about caring about people, start showing it.

I have been working at Turner Construction full-time

    Pros

    I can't think of any

    Cons

If you're not someone's pet, forget about promotions. Most of their policies are based on whatever has worked in the past. They don't keep up with the present at all. Two week's vacation is ridiculous.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop living in the past and look at the world around you. You talk about people staying for their whole careers but you don't do anything to make them want to. Base promotions on quality of work not on who likes you or how long you've been there.

I worked at Turner Construction as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

Great introduction to construction project / field engineering. This internship was on site and involved many aspects of construction, from construction documents to meeting with consulting engineers, the architects, utility and regulatory officials and clients. The project staff including executives were all helpful. My Mentor was very helpful and showed real concern. The PM was top notch.

    Cons

The human resources department would have HR interns handle your file. Just like I would make errors so would they. The mistakes that were not corrected prevented me from participating in all the events they mentioned in the on-boarding process and I feel I did not get the same experience other interns did.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have an HR rep comb through interns file to ensure accuracy.

I worked at Turner Construction as an intern

    Pros

Very good atmosphere to work in. Everyone is friendly and willing to help you (open-door policy). Turner trains you well, and sets you up for success. It is well known that Turner produces excellence and trains their employees for success; therefore around the 5-year mark many Turner employees get poached by other construction companies.

    Cons

Turner is a huge company, and it can be difficult trying to network with everyone despite their efforts to organize social events. Unfortunately, this is the case with many big name construction companies, so this didn't bother me too much.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I enjoyed my internship experience with Turner, but I would have liked management to show more of an effort to introduce/socialize with internship-level employees.

    Pros

Great coworkers, everyone is friendly and always willing to help each other, great culture, awesome projects, cool experiences. Pride in the projects completed. Management is really on top of what they are doing, the president knows everyone and knows everything about the company and continues to improve the company.

    Cons

Can't really think of any cons, I would say sometimes difficult to contact certain superts, but most respond quickly and friendly.

    Pros

Great company. The benefits programs are the best in the industry and Turner treats all of their employees very well. There is no glass ceiling... work hard and you will do well.

    Cons

Turner is committed to the happiness of their employees; however, construction work is somewhat transient... be prepared to move for new opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
