I worked at Turner Construction full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You will learn a lot about the industry. A well known, high visibility company. Had some amazing jobs to work on, and some fantastic coworkers..vacation and sick days were not lumped together as " PTO("paid time off" )as is the case with many companies . Quarterly functions to address " state of business unit operations"was well handled as a nice social function/ cocktail party....A perk. some nicely executed social functions helped smooth the edge of being expected to be at company's beck and call at all times.

    Cons

The truly excellent and visionary aren't acknowledged... Serious old boy network, and nepotism runs rampant. You can be the best in your field, but if you aren't one of the " favored ones" ... Start looking to move elsewhere because although you won't be fired.... You'll be pigeon-holed and not promoted or compensated as you should be. Very long work hours are the norm and expected without adequate compensation. Frequent late night and weekend work. Bonus structure very unfairly distributed to really only acknowledge field ops.... If you are considered support in any way.... Forget any meaningful bonus. All in all .... Company has a lot of potential not realized

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the dinosaurs. Revamp your compensation policies.. And stop putting failed field ops people in charge of departments they have no training in or any interest in doing the job well.

I have been working at Turner Construction as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Awesome co-workers, lots of hands on experience, lots of real world experience, co-workers collaborate with you in order to help you jump into the teams project, welcoming atmosphere

    Cons

There aren't too many cons, though I would say that the multiple weekly meetings may get tiresome if you have a short attention span.

I have been working at Turner Construction full-time

    Pros

Great experience. Turner utilizes the newest CM methods and technology.

    Cons

Long work hours and travel but that's just the construction industry in general.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create SOP's (standard operating procedures) to make it easier for people to bounce around projects.

I have been working at Turner Construction full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Turner has completed many impressive projects across the nation and the globe. This experience opens up a lot of opportunities for the company and the company spends a lot of time training its employees and embracing new technology.

    Cons

As a large company change comes slowly and even thought there is a focus on new technology it is hard to get buy in for major changes from corporate. Offices vary a lot, some are excellent and some just okay. Turner is not a private company and has a lot of back of house cost which makes it difficult to be cost competitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more engaged in day to day employee activities and focusing on how to build well and less focused on the data and less focused on just metrics, industry and performance data. Overall focus more on b people and less on data and acronyms.

I have been working at Turner Construction full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Management philosophy, managers and co-workers, training, resources, benefits, culture

    Cons

Processes can be slow and more complicated than they need to be, its a large company so although there are growth opportunities there are lots of people to grow into those oppertunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make processes easier for operations. Stream line processes and make departments accountable for their own responsibilities. (ie operations has too much work involved in accounting, let us focus on operations).
