I worked at Turner Construction full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I had a great experience at this company. The pay is good and there are a lot of good people there. There were always plenty of opportunities to advance available. You may have needed to look for them, but they were there. All it took was initiative.

    Cons

The hours could be long sometimes. This wasn't too much of a problem, because I think that's pretty much the same anywhere you go.

I have been working at Turner Construction full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You will learn a lot from many different people, especially when working on a jobsite. There are people who have been with Turner for 10, 15, 20 + years and hearing about their experiences is very useful. Turner is also a very stable company to work for.

    Cons

Work life balance is very poor and it is difficult to advance unless you know someone at the top. Some people at the top should be replaced because they just follow the same procedures even if they don't work well. It also takes a ton of a paperwork and steps to do perform a simple task at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give employees a better work life balance, newletters are dedicated to work life balance, however, no one really has one. Too many hours, not enough recognition. Good place to learn.

I have been working at Turner Construction full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Good exposure to complex projects

    Cons

You will never work on a "Typical" Turner Job

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow through. Turner lacks follow through to self directed initiatives, which in turn leads to skeptisim and unrest. Connectivity, I'm not sure senior management even understands the word. Start with names and one simple fact about an employee. It's not hard to do, people love to talk about themselves.

Remember Turner was built on TIC, but without commitment employees will just tic time away while looking for new ventures.

Listen, too many times something hasn't been in the wheelhouse, but innovation is not a wheelhouse but the progression of teamwork.

Turner makes significant effort to keep good people in down times, but has limited long term advancement opportunities.

I have been working at Turner Construction full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great benefits and training, job stability, good people, generous compensation, consistent raises, comprehensive annual evaluations

    Cons

Tendency to pigeon-hole people in positions in which they excel, limited ability to advance to level of a Project Executive in construction if you don't meet a certain profile, abundance of middle management creating roadblocks to advancement

    Former Employee - IT Manager

I worked at Turner Construction full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The best aspect of the company is its hard-working people who appreciate your help. Staff and middle management are generally non-technical and are looking for assistance from IT.

    Cons

IT is not mainstream, so opportunities are limited. Upper management believes IT is an overhead expense that can continually be down-sized. Path of least resistance is for IT management to cut top IT staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Career paths must be developed to lead beyond IT.

    Pros

Friendly Environment. There are some brilliant people that work for this company

    Cons

There is entirely too many steps and paperwork involved to complete a single task. There use of the word "Volunteer" is extremely used out of context.
