Pros
They tend to keep a fair amount of work and its usually rotating through the same refineries, so you tend to become very familiar with your surrounding work areas.
Cons
Turner Industries tends to under stock their Tool Trailer on the job site and lean more toward the craftsmen they hire bringing all their own tools. In ways that is a good practice however personal tools tend to get stolen and then if you are short your personal tool and the Company itself doesn't have enough of those tools on hand at the job site its easy to fall behind schedule.
Advice to Senior Management
Do a better job stocking your Tool Trailer for assurance your people will have tools and materials needed to perform job in timely and safe manner.
Pros
Good work - life balance
Fellow employees are a good group of people. You are treated pretty good and people are easy to work with.
Big on promoting from within.
Cons
Majority of managers and people have been here for 20+ yrs in the same position. Very set in their ways. Super conservative. Lack of training younger men and women will be the demise of this company. When the CEO leaves, its over with!
If you know someone in the right division you will be okay, if not, good luck! The different divisions are always at war with each other. No team work at all! Pay scale is below average vs.other companies.
Raises and job reviews are talked about but NEVER followed through with.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer the proper training on a consistent bases. Stop the fighting between different divisions and keep an eye out for younger talent.
Give job reviews and raises as you should. Get leaders with fresh ideas and perspectives.
Pros
- Flexible with family life.
- Provides great community service.
- Not micromanaged very much.
Cons
- Many people are related which is strange.
- Many cliques and hard to break in with the rest of employees. The cliques and raises/promotions are directly related.
- Low pay
- Promised training and raises were never delivered.
- Many 'followers'... even management.
- Plethora of meetings without any outcomes.
- Rash to make massive decisions without weighing out pros/cons.
- Benefits are not good.
- Many of management has been there for YEARS and are very set in their ways.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep yourselves and your employees updated with training. Require documentation. Lay off of the office politics. Reward staff of a job well-done through variety of means. Be open to change.
Pros
Easy to advance IF YOU'RE FAMILY
Cons
The process required to hire on to a job is horrible. I literally get physically sick just thinking about having to go through their personnel office. The people there do not care about you, just their hours, they are slow, they are not organized, and make it a duty to make your hiring take as long as possible.
Once hired on and at the job site, you will notice it is very "family oriented" as in, the management people are either kin or long time friends.
No bonuses AT ALL, for ANYTHING. We once finished a job 2 weeks early and all we were rewarded with was a 2 week early lay off, NO BONUS.
They mess up your paycheck constantly and it takes constant nagging to finally get it right.
They must have teams who's job it is to figure out how to rob people of their per-diem.
Advice to Senior Management
None, nothing will save this company but total collapse.
Pros
Fellow employees are all really good people.
Cons
No-Fault attendance policy (occurrences)
Hours are feast or famine
Pay and benefits are lower than similar companies
Favoritism from shop superintendent to the VP's, Only select people get treated well.
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of the no fault attendance policy those things don't make any sense there cruel. Remember, it takes everyone to get the job done. If you treat people like crap, that's all you'll get in return.
