I have been working at Tusculum College part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people! You get real close to your staff.

    Cons

RA management not coordinated and not flexible. Last minute planning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need better planning and better compensation for RA staff.

I worked at Tusculum College full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

block system incorporated, relatively easy courses from the shortened class scheduling overview, legitimate setup for student-athletes

    Cons

teachers are few, so courses of teachers may overlap a few times, authorization to take course outside the school area is difficult since one teacher dictates the granting

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Technology isn't update near to a students liking on campus. Often times found accessing internet for my wifi on my phone was out of the question. I got data charged routinely

I worked at Tusculum College as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Enjoyed working with the students, most of whom have full-time jobs and/or are raising kids while attending Tusculum's intense classes.

    Cons

Adjunct teachers here are, as at most schools, left to do their own thing -- there's very little interaction with other teachers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Increase pay.

I have been working at Tusculum College full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There's a great group of people at TC. Generally they care for you and support your professional development. Small beautiful campus where you can get to know students and fellow staff. Plenty of excercise walking to and from parking. Lots of opportunities to become involved in college programs: Advanced Registration Days, Safe Zone, etc.

    Cons

The biggest issue is pay - I'm guessing that most staff are paid at least half what they are worth, I have no idea about faculty. Parking is backwards from most colleges, faculty, staff and students fight over parking, but with a small campus, you don't have to walk more than half a mile to cross campus. Little room to advance up the company ladder.

I have been working at Tusculum College

    Pros

Block system is very productive for my teaching.

    Cons

Communication with faculty and staff is very unorganized.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more proactive in communications. Too often it seems like the attitude is, "if we mentioned it once, everyone should know it forever, and it's not our problem if they don't know what to do."

    Pros

great coworkers, flexible work hours, making a positive difference in the lives of others

    Cons

unequal pay, retirement not covered, lack of money for staff development,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raise money so faculty have a reason to develop programs that are of longterm benefits to the community and East Tennessee.

I have been working at Tusculum College as a contractor (more than 10 years)

    Pros

College has first class facilities, accompanied by unparalleled professional and staff support. Sheer joy to teach alone for this factor, but the students are all adult learners, most typically high achievers, professionals in their fields seeking to complete their four year degree or obtain a graduate degree. No discipline problems, student work is almost always timely and well done.

    Cons

Travel Pay....the travel pay used to be representive of the mileage and one's time, but due to the recession, per diem has been reduced to almost a barely meet expenses modem.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tusculum College staff, faculty, are way above the cut, they are simply the best of the best an adjunct could ever hope for. I have taught for three colleges, and none of the others come close to the support and treatment that Tusculum provides to its adjunct faculty. You are king or queen in their eyes, and they go out of their way to show it.
