I have been working at Twentieth Century Fox full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Food on the lot is great. Always some sort of fun event or vendor(s) on the lot. Free movie screenings. Very fun to see the inner workings of one of the top studios. The lot is a self-contained city. Most co-workers are superficial, but friendly. Pay is a lower than industry standards for technology, but possibly the highest of the studios. Benefits are solid. Decent job security if you keep your head down and keep your ideas to yourself. They have a great paid internship program. I can imagine this would be a great resume-builder for anybody who is interested in entertainment or is just out of college. Lots of attractive people walking around the lot (in addition to the actors). This is a hugely successful movie & tv machine - they will be successful for many years to come.

    Cons

Several under-qualified megalomaniacs in management. You will be bullied, belittled and micromanaged by supervisors who are not technically qualified to know the best solutions (but impose low-level technical decisions anyway). Management is more interested in ego and control than developing good technical solutions. The wrong people are reprimanded for other people's shortcomings and mistakes. This is an environment based on fear (you would have thought they learned from Yoda when they distributed Star Wars). Contractors are treated better than full-time employees. FOX is staffed super lean - which means you will have no life outside of work. Additionally, you are not rewarded for your hard work. There is no sense of teamwork - each warring clique is out to prove the other clique (or individuals) is wrong. There is an ongoing war between the on-site contracting companies to drum up more $$$, creating a very tense environment that leaves worker bees frustrated, not knowing who to trust, and having to defend many of their basic technical decisions. There is no flex time, work-life balance, or appreciation for your opinions and skill set.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your subject matter experts and staff. Have your staff pre-screen technical consultants before they are hired on a project. Recognize people when they do a great job; Respect them as human beings; Reward them for their hard work.

I worked at Twentieth Century Fox

    Pros

Free screenings, good benefits, fun summer events and holidays parities

    Cons

Too much politics at the top, too little vacation time, mismatching skill sets

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take more effort in caring for the growth of your employees and what they want to do. They care too much about the head count that ended up hurting their employees career when they leave their current employee in a mismatched job while the employee really deserves to be in another department.

I worked at Twentieth Century Fox full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Life-Work balance is fair. Entertainment perks are a huge plus. Compensation is better than most studios. Corporate jobs have regular 9-5 hours. Production hours can be longer than 8 per day.

    Cons

Not many people leave, so room for growth (read upward mobility) may be difficult depending on the department. Can easily become jaded with entertainment industry and feel "stuck."

VERY lean hiring, very poor management, and difficult work environment!!!

I worked at Twentieth Century Fox full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Gym on the lot (although gym membership is a bit pricey and it's a small space), free screenings, cool on the lot events that you're invited to. After all the hard work that you put forth, you feel proud of the outcome when you see the final products for the job that you've done.

    Cons

The pay is low, considering how many hour you put forth; no work-life balance - impossible to get time off from work and actually enjoy your time off! You're constantly working about your inbox blowing up and you have to play email "catch-up" ALL THE TIME. (you're always expected to be available to do something for someone).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Because of the very lean hiring policy that Fox has, there's only one individual who generally overlooks an entire team in a specific department. If you don't snooze with your management and "play the game" with them, good luck! They don't appreciate how hard you're working for them and the long hours that you put into your work. And because the teams are small in each of the department, better make sure you get along with everyone, or they ostracize you! Feels like middle school bullying otherwise!!! And HR is WELL-AWARE of the complaints people put in, but not sure if they take any action with all the accrued exit-interview reviews! I never had a job in my life before where I wanted to walk out of there!

You have no work-life balance working here. Everyone is on salary but due to tight production deadlines, everyone is forced to working through their weekends. If you LOVE working that much, this is the job for you. But if you're not 100% in it, DON'T put yourself through this misery. NOT WORTH IT.

I have been working at Twentieth Century Fox full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Fox is a very lean organization, thus giving it an entrepreneurial spirit. At every level (even as an assistant or coordinator) you are given tasks and you grow really fast and handle a lot of projects. It is great experience and you get to know many others in the organization and collaborate on great projects. Also the benefits are great!

    Cons

Because it is such a big company, there is a lot of red tape and processes. The pay is also very low compared to other entertainment studios in Los Angeles.
