    I worked at Twitter

    Pros

Twitter is a small, fast-growing company with a management team that has worked together in the past. There is always way too much to do on any given day, which allows for specializations beyond a given job function. Software engineers enjoy many new technologies such as Scala and real-time consumer messaging while operating in a small team with the capacity for big impact. Many employees are ex-Googlers with experience in large-scale systems yet eager to escape bureaucracy. Twitter employees have passions outside of work, which makes for more interesting coworkers.

    Cons

A fast-moving startup where it's sometimes easier to see what isn't getting done than reward the good efforts being made by staff every day. Everyone is stretched so thin that sometimes the pressure takes over.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is more honest with employees about company operations than they need to be, and I appreciate that.

    Pros

The pay is good and the work is interesting. The company is growing fast, so there are a lot of opportunities.

    Cons

It is not a startup anymore. For some people that will be a problem.

I have been working at Twitter

    Pros

-Freedom to work on what you want
-All the perks that you would expect from any tech company
    -Management believes and trusts you

    Cons

    -Hard work, long hours
-Not enough meeting rooms for the growing company
-Too many good looking people. Makes me look bad

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be bogged down by the media. Keep on doing what you're doing. Also, more fried chicken days for lunch would be swell.

    I worked at Twitter

    Pros

Lots of food. They serve a ton of snacks and meal options.

Great perks for a startup, they are competitive with Zynga and Facebook on this.

Short work hours, everyone leaves at 4 pm on Fridays for Tea Time.

Low expectations for team members. easy to get promoted to Tech Lead. If you are coming from Google you will feel like a genius.

Extremely social company, very friendly leadership.

    High salaries and restricted stock.

    Cons

Very frustrating to be a Software Engineer coming from an environment like Google.

Unusually high turnover for a startup tech company, particularly among senior management and high performers. You never know when someone is about to leave -- and often you have no idea why.

Very secretive. I have no idea how the company is doing in terms of finances. Most big news I read about in Tech Crunch.

Engineering reputation is poor. It's getting better, but hiring is difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The CEO is great, I just wish they didn't have so many executives leaving the company all the time. It's hard to keep track of and very bad for morale. Also I wish the company would innovate more. Before I joined I was told Twitter is going to do all these futuristic things but after a year and a half they've only had a surface level web client redesign that doesn't work very well.

    Pros

If you're an Engineer, it's not a bad place to be. If you're not, avoid.

    Cons

Disorganized and weak management. Lots of junior managers in senior roles.

    I worked at Twitter

    Pros

Unlimited time off for vacation. Free food. Good health benefits. 401K is non-matching but decent. Location is ideal in SF.

    Cons

Two camps of people. Old blood vs new blood. Old blood refuses to give into scalability of new blood. Considers newer employees with experience from other successful companies a threat and will not consider any recommendations. Company still has no idea how to monetize, but still continues to spend money left and right on hiring/acquiring talent with no long term plans.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the people who run the company. Don't let old timers influence decisions that more experienced and well rounded employees have. You can't ignore those with experience vs those that are your buddies from early in the founding.

I have been working at Twitter full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very active atmosphere and start up like culture. Everyone gets a laptop and free breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everyone one is friendly and works well with each other.

    Cons

Management seems to be a mess at the moment. This could be due to a lot of things happening at the company.
