    ProsWork life balance is valued

ConsIt's about who you know, not what you do to be promoted.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo more to make your employees trust your leadership team.

    Complicated work environment.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Indianapolis, IN

ProsPosition provides opportunity to develop skills and gain experience in a multinational company. Benefits are good, comparable to most large companies.

ConsPoor work / life balance. Schedules are non-negotiable.
Arbitrary policies that focus on conformity not innovation.
    Currently unstable work environment.
There have been hundreds let go due to downsizing or "restructuring". Departments are not forced to work with insufficient staff and outdated systems.
Rumor is that senior executives are working towards inflating the stock price in order to make the company look more attractive & sell.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe honest about the plan or future of the business with employees.

    Great company with great products!

Senior Director Engineering (Former Employee) Boca Raton, FL

ProsTyco successfully navigated the tedious and incredibly difficult process of integrating multiple (hundreds) of acquired technology and service businesses and is well on its way to delivery of highly featured and advanced security technology products to a global customer base. Tyco is a company to consider if you are looking for a global manufacturing, engineering or sales experience.

ConsBecause the company grew primarily by acquisition ( as opposed to organically ) there are still "seams" in the fabric that make little sense ( unless you understand how the seam got there in the first place ) and can be very frustrating with which to deal. On the other hand ... these are also opportunities for assertive and wise managers.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to work at finding ways of keeping your most experienced and capable talent working on the most strategically important projects. You have much work to do as the needs of the security solution buyer are growing faster than you can deliver.

    Tyco a reasonable employer

Order Administrator (Former Employee) Boca Raton, FL

ProsThey offer great benefits and opportuntiies for career advancement.

ConsManagers seem to have more rights than subordinates. Managers are supported by the HR department to the extent that subordinates feel that lodging a complaint about a manager serves no purpose other than to get them in trouble with said manager.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmployee performance reviews are conducted annually by manager/supervisors. There needs to be some method employees can rate performance of managers so HR can improve the quality of their management team. When more than 50% of a department has had issues with a manager there needs to be some action (training or otherwise) to ensure that Vital Values are adhered to.

Bad management, focused on selling off parts and with little real product innovation

    Product Management (Former Employee)

ProsPay was fair, bonuses were complex and based on corporate behavior not divisional level

ConsMatrix organization creates analysis paralysis, hard to get any decisions made with lots of politics
Engineering is being destaffed to cut costs so product innovation is suffering
Management does not know to treat startup companies they acquire, key people leave quickly once they realize the organizational culture is suffocating

    Advice to Senior ManagementRetire quickly

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Reasonably profitable business in a stable industry

Senior Associate (Post-MBA) (Current Employee) Princeton, NJ

ProsStructured post-MBA rotation program. Tyco is the industry leader in the segments where it operates. And it operates in mostly mature-stage of industry life cycle. One can have a simple, clear career trajectory. good work-life balance.

ConsLike all large companies, there is lots of politics involved. And it can play a big role in key corporate events (M&A, etc.) At the end of the day, it is a matter of personal choice on how much one wishes to engage in the game.

    Advice to Senior ManagementMore transparency.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
