Tyco provided a great workplace environment. They really knew how to take care of their employees.

I have been working at Tyco full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Unlimted opportunities, but beware. These opporunities may be because of the amount of restructuring and headcount reductions to meet finanical committments.

    Cons

Tyco Installation and Services is behind the eight ball when it comes to field mobility tools. Competitors are light years ahead. IT support is non-existent. Senior management philosophy is do more with less. Though possible if investments are made in technology to streamline processes. Lastly, there is a false sense of their own value. They try to price themselves out of their financial problems with no regard for the market competition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in IT and technology and empliment it quickly. Reduce the margin expectations to drive renenue growth. Put customer interests above that of the shareholders.

I have been working at Tyco

    Pros

Benefits, training, company vehicle, pay within industry standard.

    Cons

Sr management has lost sight of what serving customers is actually all about. Cutting costs and beating down the employees is driving good technicians away.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pull your head out of your conference calls and take care of the delivery process. The rest will come.

    I worked at Tyco

    Pros

I did like the fact that the company does put you through an extensive training for 2 weeks. The company does provide you with a company car and gas card.

    Cons

In my particular case, I ended up in the hospital and home for 2 weeks soon after I finished training. I was anxious to get back to work to not fall to far behind. For some reason, I couldn't any time with my sales manager to get caught up on some things. They have a complicated database system for finding parts, recreating contracts and proposals. The biggest problem though was that in the beginning of your training, you really have to depend on sales engineers to put together fire proposals as well as some other products and that can take weeks to get the plans back.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think more emphasis needs to be placed on mastering their database system before you hit the field, because you can't even spit out a proposal without that. If the manager is not going to support the reps, at least set up a pairing with an experienced rep for the first few weeks out of training. There are a lot of moving parts to wrap your head around in the beginning.

I worked at Tyco full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Some very hard working talented folks over there….but none are in management

    Cons

Family owned company with 4 family members in upper management so you have 4 different bosses and given tasks. Communication almost non-existent. One family member is supposedly retired; however, comes to work and goes out in the field. Have a feeling the SWAM title they have is abused.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have only one family member as the boss and have other family members work somewhere else
