-well organized, with pockets of excellence, was fortunate to be a part of a excellent group
-good salary and vacation days
-good 401k
Cons
-very poor health benefits, one of the worst of the companies I worked in. Got from bad to worse over the years.
-upper management likes to buy companies, but not groom them once bought.
-promotion scheme not very transparent, even the managers are unclear about the process..
- don't know how a few incompetent people reached very senior managerial levels, and are calling shots on things like complex systems (hardware or software), when they have no working knowledge of those.
Advice to Senior Management
-Time to market is important, but you need to groom the internal units/pior companies you buy and let them innovate. Buying yet another company is not a solution. You will be playing catch up all the time.
-Quality R&D comes with recruiting quality people. While there are lot of pockets of excellence, the management needs to put more manpower into those groups. Create atmosphere for innovation with stable growing groups. Very little patents generated!
Pros
creative environment, good compensation, easy going senior management, flexible working styles, you can have a high visibility if you did excellent job
Cons
The management team need to share more with the employee about the undergoing projects and progress. The medical insurance plan is not as good as other big corps.
Advice to Senior Management
the management team need to share more with the employee about the undergoing projects and progress. Brain storm might be a good idea for leaders to hear other ideas from employees
Pros
While the company has a relaxed atmosphere, you are expected to put 100% into your job. People work hard and also have fun. There are also many opportunities for advancement.
Cons
As with most large companies, changes in strategy and/or direction are painful.
The companies strategies, goals and core principals aren't always communicated in a timely and effective manner.
Advice to Senior Management
Develop strategies, goals and core principals and communicate to employees in a timely and effective manner. Be more resilient to market changes.
Pros
- Nice small office
- Very flexible work schedule
- Telecommuting friendly
- Management accommodated all vacation requests
- Generally a well run business
- As a technical professional, you are sheltered and often blocked off from other sectors of the business.
Cons
- Close knit environment, everyone went to school at the same place; if you didn't then you will feel like an outsider
- Non-social atmosphere, you can go days without talking to anyone
- Mind-numbing work
- Depressing workspace
Advice to Senior Management
- Management has a hard time communicating to people below them. Either they are too lazy to do that or they feel like they don't have to because they are above everyone else.
In my opinion, management should be friendly and approachable and they should OFFER communication on decisions and current business practices.
Pros
Good work environment . Clean and organized work areas. Desire to produce a quality product was sensed in the work areas.
Cons
too many managers, too many directors.
Advice to Senior Management
The most important part of your industry are the people on the floors (manufacturing areas) they should always know that for a fact..
