Ok employer. Wish they would give more than 25 hours.

    Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)
    New Haven, CT

ProsSlightly higher than minimum wage, flexible scheduling, access to interesting classes via U-Haul university, also generous discounts with various company.

ConsUnless you are management, they will not allow anyone to work more than 25 hours a week. They would rather hire another person than give any current employees more than 25 hours.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow advancement to full time.

Too many hours, too little pay

    General Manager (Former Employee)

ProsSteady income, nice interaction with returning customers

Cons55 hour minimum week, usually is about 60+. 6 day a week minimum schedule during the busy months. If you get an alarm call, storage call and you need to go to the center in the middle of the night you are required to go. Personal cell phone number is listed online, in store and on the door. You are required to give your number out and they don't even pay fo it. Hope you like calls at 3am.

Advice to Senior ManagementToo much of the "good ol boys club" going on. You put people in positions that don' belong there just because they are buddies. Meanwhile when you see that persons numbers going down you fire all the new people who are making mistakes and who haven't been properly trained to cover your buddies butt. I saw this about 5 times in 3 years.

    Auditor

    Internal Auditor (Former Employee)
    Phoenix, AZ

ProsAbility to travel, great cafe for employees, free turkey on thanksgiving, employee stock options

ConsSalary, ability to advance, favoritism amongst senior management

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement should provide annual reviews so employees know their strengths and weaknesses and areas to improve. Overall, I enjoyed my time with U-Haul, but at times for being such a well known company, it often feels like it is run like a small family business.

    Great Company

    Sales and Reservation (Former Employee)
    Phoenix, AZ

ProsLots of room for promotion. Working from home was allowed. Several departments to choose from. Friendly environment and managers are very helpful.

ConsWork from home requires in office training for first week. Mouse would randomly start moving on screen when manager was listening into a call and trying to help.

Advice to Senior ManagementOverall I think U-Haul is a great company. Would have been nice to have lower rates on U-boxes as customers usually turned down reservations because of price.
