Once a good company to work for.

Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)

I have been working at U.S. Cellular full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe pay and benefits are good for what you do.

ConsNo longer employee and customer focused, now focused on the dollar at all cost. New manager's lack good leadership skills and training

Advice to Senior ManagementQuit trying to be Verizon and go back to having your own identity and values.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Meh

Technical Support Representative (Current Employee)
Bolingbrook, IL

I have been working at U.S. Cellular full-time for more than 7 years

ProsSalary is competitive and the benefits are great.

Consjob security, often feel like any day could be your last day. There was a lot of favoritism in this call center. Job is repetitive and you get almost no training (i.e tech support specialist), you have to learn as you go. Lack of consistency from management.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide better training and systems so your employees can perform their jobs.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

overall I thought it was a good company to work for

Retail Wireless Consultant (Former Employee)
Chicago, IL

I worked at U.S. Cellular full-time for more than 3 years

ProsAs a Retail Wireless Consultant there is a good training program. The good Sales Managers that I had had did a good job helping me along, and I never felt like there was a manager that I couldnt talk to. Even though it's a retail schedule the work/life balance is very good, I never worked more than 40 hours/week (unless I requested to over holidays), and there's never any work to take home with you

ConsSold Chicago market to Sprint and closed the stores in Chicago. I never felt like there were a lot of opportunities to move up in the organization if I did not want to become a Sales Manager or work at a call center.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere has been a lot of change at U.S. Cellular over the time that I've been there and some of it has been difficult, make sure to keep communication open and honest like I feel like you do

Performance Analyst (Current Employee)

I have been working at U.S. Cellular full-time for more than 3 years

ProsAbility to work from home, time off (after 3 years - 3 weeks vacation, 1 week personal, 6 days sick), friendly atmosphere, annual bonuses

Conslots of changes and uncertainty, job security due to many recent cuts

Very Conservative and full of silos

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL

I have been working at U.S. Cellular full-time for more than a year

ProsThe people are friendly and the company seems to support a good work/life balance. Benefits are fair to good.

ConsThe pay is a little low. It is also difficult for people to move up or move to different positions. The system is very rigid and difficult to change. The "DO" seems to be guidelines for how associates should respect each other, but the company often does not follow the same guidelines in it's relationship with employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop using the DO as a club. Look at all the corporate policies and make the system treats every associate with respect.
