Pros
Opportunities to succeed are there if you have the right attiude. Have been able to try a few different things whch is motivating.
Cons
Current issues are applicable to industry in general, but always being pushed to do more with less. Sometimes the less is just not enough.
Pros
Well established in the industry, good working atmosphere, good colleagues
Cons
Unstable upper management, lot of internal politics, disparity between workers etc.
Advice to Senior Management
Upper management should constantly get feedback from people down below and listen to employee's concerns.
Pros
-UBS provides a wide variety of computer based training toolkits which is easily accessible to all employees. If you ever have any down-time, you can always use it to learn a new skill.
-Ability to work from remote location.
-Great benefits
Cons
-The constant changes in strategic tools can, at times, make it difficult to get work completed in a timely manner.
Pros
My group had a great culture and I definitely learned a lot during the first year in my position. There were a lot of trainings (lunch n learn, training the street, etc.).
Cons
Constant management change, unclear strategy, lower comps than the rest of Wall Street firms. The corporate culture is mixed and your experience will depend a lot on the specific group you are in.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay people fairly otherwise people will just walk out or go to other banks.
Pros
The brand name and reputation were decent for a long time. European business was decent.
Cons
The extensive European office network was able to create unrealistic demands on research in London.
Advice to Senior Management
Investing in creating a more team-work oriented culture should be a priority. The company needs to find a way to document its culture more extensively and create an indoctrination process so that staff have greater understanding of what is truly valued by the company. This can also help get away from the "personal agendas" that seem to drive a lot of the management decision making.
Pros
Friendly and talented people, challenging jobs and tasks, best hardware and facilities, top tier technology, fun and interesting events and fairly reasonable life styles.
Cons
If you are able to get the same position in UBS somewhere else than China, you will have a better pay and a better chance to be promoted.
Advice to Senior Management
I did enjoy the whole working experience, and I am looking forward to coming back to UBS to make further contribution.
Pros
people are friendly and there is a lot room to move in the company, but do not expect anything to be handed to you. there is a saying that if you do not ask you will not get
Cons
the finance the department does not like there employees trying to lateral their way into sales and trade, but it is still very possible.
Advice to Senior Management
let employees dress business casual. it is little things like that, which can make a difference in an employees mood
Pros
The team I worked with had lot of opportunities to learn business and Managers were very co-operative & attentive to suggestions.
Cons
The bureaucracy can make it difficult to get things done.
