They are pretty good but could definitely use some consulting management to change a few things about how they run things there.
Pros

Open and transparent culture
Has world-leading WM, Research, and Equities platform
APAC business is on the up
Cons
Can be overly bureaucratic at times
Taken some bad decisions re. the investment bank
Pros
A lot of very smart people work at UBS. It is very rare to find a weak senior manager in IT and the quality of the IT products are generally quite high. Furthermore, most of the key IT processes are well developed, so learning the UBS way of doing things will serve you well if you move to another firm. Strong emphasis is placed on employee growth and feedback, and the employee evaluation process (PMM) is thoughtfully managed.
Cons
(writing in late 2011) the overall strategy of the firm is under review, so candidates should do their best to make sure that any role they take will continue to be part of the strategy in the coming months.
Pros
Good work life balance at all levels
Cons
Mgt is incompetent; managers who caused huge losses are still at helm of Investment Bank; enormous bureaucracy
Advice to Senior Management
Bring in competent management
Pros
Major bulge bracket firm, global platform
Cons
Culture, bad performance, face time
Advice to Senior Management
focus on retaining staff
