Large corporate, they have the infrastructure to do a lot, but sometimes that can take awhile. (TPS Reports)

I worked at UBS full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great people to work with, very customer focused and high energy. Many opportunities for training, growth, and movement throughout the company. Benefits and worklife balance are truly outstanding.

    Cons

Jobs can be menial, repetitive, and tedious (dealing with the general public who feels entitled). Change is almost impossible to effect.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Transparency is the reason I left. I was being groomed for leadership, but was given no indication of when this might happen. A new opportunity came along, and I put in my two weeks the day they transferred my boss to a new department (opening a gap I was likely shaped to fill).

I have been working at UBS full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good people in the ranks. Very dedicated workforce. Their contributions go above and beyond.

    Cons

Management's sight on lowering cost footprint at all levels leads to exodus (willing and unwilling) of people with decades of subject matter expertise. Jobs moving to lower cost areas within country and outside of the country. No long term future for anyone in the new york area, where company is based.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

reconsider the decades of subject matter expertise that leaving in droves before you find yourselves in a unrecoverable situation with low cost resources who cannot function in a emergency situation.

I have been working at UBS full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

UBS offers some good benefits, tuition reimbursement, free passes to local zoos/museums, 401k matches. The firm is so large you can always find an area or niche that fits you. Work life balance depends on the area

    Cons

Because it is so large it can be challenging to find the right request system for whatever access or tool you are seeking out. The commute to Weehawken or Jersey City offices is terrible, if you live in NJ it is like driving into NYC

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work life balance and compensation are the two biggest concerns to most employees that I have spoken with

I have been working at UBS full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The only pro is work life balance. For the most part you won't have a heavy work load.

    Cons

Too many managers. Too much involvement of Business in technical decisions. Most of the business people don't have any idea about technology but have a huge say in how an application should be designed. Software engineers who actually build these applications have no respect. Business managers and Program managers take all the credit

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you really want your IT to make some money for your Business. Get rid of 5 managers and 2 developers strategy. You don't need 5 program/project managers for 1 project.

    Pros
