Pros – Good benefits, some good staff, excited students. Work/life balance is attainable.

Cons – Low pay, disorganized and inefficient organizational structure, lack of funding. Some staff very complacent. Rarely got a raise, even for cost of living. Little opportunity for career advancement.

Advice to Senior Management – Centralize, streamline, organize. Use the money saved to keep tuition low and pay staff what they deserve. Offer paths and opportunities for career advancement.

Pros – World class research (I'm in neuroscience), excellent location. In the past few years Berkeley has taken "alternative" careers more seriously for STEM researchers and now offers many workshops to help people looking beyond the academic track.

Cons – Postdoc pay lags Stanford (but hey, you're a postdoc). Postdocs are basically on the NIH pay scale. Also, Berkeley's academic disciplines can be a little siloed.

Pros – Flexible hours, awesome bosses. Good pay and work on campus so you are close to good food and things to do.

Cons – Coworkers are students so they are not the best at showing up for their shift or being professional.

-Good pay for an on-campus/workstudy job.
-Lots of room for growth, promotion and development of IT skills

Cons – -Work tasks can get a little monotonous at times: (e.g. replacing printer toner)
-At times you can get stuck working with unmotivated students

Pros – There are a wealth of great opportunities in any field of research. The faculty are very well connected within the Bay Area in their respective fields.

Cons – The atmosphere of the school is very competitive and many of the people are fairly introverted.

Pros – UC Berkeley has some of the best minds int he world

Cons – the university itself is divided between the ever-increasing corporate bureaucracy and instructors/students. it's being strangled by budget mismanagement, and everything always feels like it's one piece of tape away from not working.

Advice to Senior Management – try to focus on the education and making those who do that (read: the educators) happier. stop turning to adjunct labor. if you teach marx, then actually use his work.
