Pros
Most students are given GSR positions which pays for tuition and gives a decent stipend. The hours are super flexible and the PI's are both supportive and knowledgeable.
Cons
GSR's don't pay much, but it covers tuition and a stipend.
Advice to Senior Management
The professors running the center are amazing. They are both extremely knowledgeable in their fields and are very willing to help their grad students.
Pros
* Good benefits
* Pension
* Good work/life balance
Cons
* Recent changes to pension are worrying for young employees far from retirement. (Will it be there when I retire?)
* Salary is not on par with private sector - but that is to be expected from a public University.
* Budget cuts are resulting in layoffs and general downsizing.
Advice to Senior Management
Understand that if you take away the pension you will need to increase salaries to keep your high performers.
Pros
You get to experience a wide variety of people from many different backgrounds. Also a variety and sometimes rare medical problems that challenge and tests your abilities. Thus increasing your knowledge and experience.
Cons
Management! Shady, favoritism. Horrible communication.
Advice to Senior Management
Equal opportunity please. No racism.
Pros
good environment, and nice research and industrical exposure
Cons
diversity, but it is ok as there is a good research environment.
Pros
Great if you're a student and want a balanced work and school life.
Cons
Can't work student positions once you've graduated.
Pros
flexible schedule, great research and nice place to raise a family since they have great public school system. great medical school here..you can bike here
Cons
lower pay, hot weather, far from the bay area
Pros
Benefits and Pension. Great Location.
Cons
Below average Pay. Limited growth potential.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve IT systems
Pros
Ability to work with academic leaders in your fields. Many of your peers are motivated individuals driven to be the best. The technical support staff are excellent, although the office members are sometimes slow on the uptake.
Cons
Work environment is lacking in basic amenities.
Dispersion of groups hinders collaboration.
A lack of distinct management and department goals hinders future work.
Advice to Senior Management
Please make sure that the support office staff are knowledgeable about the job they are fulfilling. Also, make sure that the department has proper student representatives to communicate issues with work environment.
Pros
UC Davis has law school, med school, biological sciences, engineering, and the school of management and has a great potential. The campus cuisine and promotion of healthy lifestyle practices is to be applauded.
Cons
Resources limited by the select small minded, and academic researchers under faculty could receive stronger support particularly when there may be poor even abusive management by inexperienced faculty. Another challenge is in the transfer of technology into IP, and also recourse when off-center personalities (possibly more frequent in academy over industry) may make bring projects to an impasse.
Advice to Senior Management
UC Davis has the potential to make an impact on society and this can be best achieved when people here are empowered at all levels - ranging from the grad students to the leadership. There can be stronger recognition of positive mentorship and interdisciplinary creative collaboration on and across the campus, with a notable significant effort to promote and reward this, to help counter the more negative ugly behavior introduced when increased research funds become the sole goal.
Pros
Reliable, easy to work with, the people are very kind and PIs were caring and helped you with any problems
Cons
The only down side I could possibly think of is that there are so many people that want to work at UC Davis, that it is hard to find funding. I love it here.
Advice to Senior Management
i have no real advice to offer. I had a great experience with UC Davis, and they took care of me and my family.
