Actually I have not work there

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsIt is very stable as it is in a school environment, and the people are very nice. nice team, nice people.

ConsTHe pay is not that high as a TA or a reader. It will be good if you are a student, but will not support a lot if you have a family

    Great campus. Understanding boss.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsBoss and team understand your school load.
Team of young students working aside.
    Professional work practice.

ConsThere's really no cons. I loved this job. Great balance between independent work and being able to communicate with your boss.

Good job while a graduate student

    Teaching Assistant (Current Employee)
    Davis, CA

ProsFlexible schedule; decent pay for only 20 hrs/wk. Allows plenty of time for your graduate studies. There is a fair amount of ebb and flow in the workload - some weeks you'll work more than 20 hrs/wk, others you'll work far less - but most weeks you're apt to put in far less than 20 hrs.

ConsExperience will vary depending on faculty you're TAing for

Advice to Senior ManagementDepartment heads should have greater oversight of faculty members since some place ridiculous demands on the TAs and the TAs have little recourse.

    UC Davis Medical Center

    Clinical Nurse II (Current Employee)
    Sacramento, CA

ProsIt's a Level I Trauma Center. Great experience. Lots to learn. Able to self schedule in the ED. Almost always get what I request as my work schedule. Very busy ER. Shift goes by fast.

ConsSupposed to be "zero tolerance of violence" at this hospital. But they are quite the opposite. Patients coming to ED are very abusive and the hospital does not stand by it's nurses. This hospital is afraid to "ban" patients from coming back.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop letting repeat "offenders" come back to this hospital. Patients who are abusive every time they come back to be seen for the same complaint should not be allowed back. I know patients who have been banned from other Sacramento area hospitals d/t their violent and abusive behavior. Why do "we" not have the guts to tell them they are not welcome back??

Great for technology and innovation, could do better with managing people.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Davis, CA

ProsExcellent environment for working with technology and innovating new lighting solutions. Lots of great projects with practical focus on delivering useful work. Great work/life balance.

ConsScientists and engineers do not always make the best managers. Soft skills in management could have be improved. University R&D job so pay was well below market value. Political skills required to advance.

Advice to Senior ManagementRespect your employees as people, notice when the perform as agreed to, and provide constructive criticism (tell them what you need that you are not getting) when they don't perform instead of just saying demeaning or judgmental things.

    Flat repairs galore

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThey teach you from the ground-up in bicycle repairs. They have a lot of checks for your beginning work and you get to rise up to management positions within a year or two.

ConsYou'll be doing flats a lot when you start out. They probably gain the most profit from flat repairs alone. Intense training doesn't come until the summer. Management varies depending on the student running everything

Advice to Senior ManagementTrain more often. Get closer to employees that are new.

Great job to have while being a full time student.

    Tutor (Former Employee)
    Davis, CA

ProsFriendly and main people in charge of the program invested in their tutors.

ConsSome times it was hard to get all the hours I wanted because every tutoring session was usually set at the beginning of each quarter.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep it up.
