Pros
This review is specific to Campus Recreation's Youth Programs. The camps run for ten weeks of the summer, so are ideal for students. It's good experience for tutoring or childcare positions later, but you will still need Early Childhood Education to get a better-paying job elsewhere. Within Campus Rec, most people come back for second or third years. If you want to take on more responsibility, it was easy to apply for Student Manager positions. We had lots of opportunities to make contacts with the UCD staff and admins who signed their kids up, as well as within Campus Rec. Can work full time or half time during the summer. During school year, can also volunteer to work at spring break or winter break camps for extra cash.
Cons
My student manager was a first-timer and still figuring out the job, so our year-end reviews were basically the only feedback we got. I prefer more specific, one-on-one criticism and encouragement. I had a great experience, though. Not many cons come to mind.
Advice to Senior Management
I'd have liked to see more feedback, like a mid-year evaluation instead of just the year-end meeting and peer reviews. I'd like to see a camp manager or program manager sit in on classes.
Pros
Great People and Flexible Hours!
Cons
Quiet workplace, with an older crowd of employees.
Advice to Senior Management
-Good for those seeking an older crowd, more stable.
Pros
quiet and safe, very suitable for living
Cons
no more job opportunity in Finance industry
Advice to Senior Management
develop management department
Pros
Flexible schedual, decent pay, amazing co-workers and management that are always will to teach you. Overall a very fun atmosphere, and the work was rewarding to know you are contributing to the greater scientific community
Cons
You probably wont ever get rich working in the field. It has does have a general cap and at times the work load can suddenly raise for a week or two depending on other external factors beyond the managers control
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to hire on undergrads. It gives them the opportunity they need in this growing field in order for them to be competitive by the time they graduate.
Pros
Good to work with nice professor inagriculture.
Cons
Sometimes work come in the same period and make you tired while you are pretty free in other peiriod in a quarter.
Pros
*great working environment
*all necessary tools provided
*professional experience gained
* technically and internship with minimum wage
Cons
* I am not critiqued as much as I would like
*more feedback on my work
Pros
For the moment decent benefits-3 weeks vacation, 10 hours a month sick leave and retirement. However this is all subject to change as the University system in California is very unstable.
Cons
No raises for Union workers (which is a good percentage of workers) while administrators get big raises, constant threat hanging over your head of lay off, favoritism run amok . Many, many layoffs this year but none for supervisors and management which UCD is top heavy on. A high paid supervisor "supervises" 1 or 2 people.
Advice to Senior Management
Cut back on the fat on the senior level of administrators and middle management and supervisors. Micro managing is not cost effective especially when the tax payer foots the bill.
Pros
Casual, not demanding work, flexible scheduling
Cons
tedious work, worked in a small room
Advice to Senior Management
Pay more
Pros
-Work with great people, 99% students
-Strong company culture
-Opportunities for promotion
-Flexible hours
-Some of the best parties in Davis
Cons
-Smell like food all day
-Early morning, late night shifts
Advice to Senior Management
The Coffee House is a great place to work and I really enjoyed my time there. The management is great, my advice is to make sure the CoHo remains fun.
Pros
Rewarding experience, pretty good pay.
Cons
Not a lot of communication between the tutor and the learning skills center
