I worked at UC Davis for more than a year

    Pros

The provided a friendly working environment where I always felt supported and where I could ask for help if I needed it. It was a challenging environment, but the kind of challenging that helps you grow as a person

    Cons

The position I was in took up a good amount of my time and I didn't get much time off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Resident advisers need more down time outside of the dorms

    Pros

    Cons

Some Schools are too heavily managed by multiple layers of Deans and Director's. Makes for a rigid environment.

I worked at UC Davis part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The campus culture is fresh, fun and inspiring.

    Cons

The upper-level management and administrators do not care about the state of the campus or the needs of the students. Diversity is prioritized over talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get a new chancellor.

I worked at UC Davis full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

A great collection of intelligent thinkers that apply their brains to important problems. The atmosphere is charged with energy, and if you find a good collaborative and supportive group of people, you can make anything happen.

    Cons

Tenure should be revokable. Instead, professors can get away with actions that would have them fired at any other job or profession. The administration is overpaid but justify this by claiming that they must compete with the private sector for qualified candidates. And they like to pepper spray their students...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees. You hired them for their intelligence, so trust them. Most of them know a thing or two.

    Good work experience for students

Former Employee - Student Assistant in Davis, CA

I worked at UC Davis part-time for more than a year

    Pros

For student assistants, the department on campus jobs provide a flexible schedule, fun co-workers and a good learning experience for the real world. It was nice to be able to cater the work schedule around classes every quarter and stay on campus.

    Cons

The pay isn't anything grand and sometimes you get stuck with doing something no one else wants to do, but in the end, you're a student and it's a paying job. Sometimes hard to schedule out during midterms and finals weeks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure the students keep a good work-life-school balance.

I worked at UC Davis part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

As a student, I was given clear instructions for my assignments. Supervisors are open and available for questions and give their employees room to grow and learn different skills. Since I was a part-time employee, my hours were flexible and they were willing to fit my needs. People are friendly and helpful.

    Cons

More training for their full-time employees for specific projects. Allow more opportunities to take on more challenging projects.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Higher pay and more opportunities to grow professionally.

I have been working at UC Davis

    Pros

In stat and out of state tuition waived

    Cons

Stipend is meagre but does the job. In summer, working full time is good.

    Former Employee - Faculty

I worked at UC Davis full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Many dedicated staff and faculty
Opportunities in a range of areas with the right background
Still have very good benefits....they are eroding

    Cons

    Salaries are not competitive
Senior management is leading the institution as tho it is a private corporation, not a public institution. The historical values of UC are being corrupted

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep your eye on eroding benefits. Salaries are not competitive for the typical employee but benefits are a draw...don't let them continue to decline
Top level administrators have forgotten that UC is a public institution and should be serving the needs of CA
