Pros-because it is a teaching hospital, everyone is more than happy to answer any questions you have. Exciting cases.

Cons-Sacramento is not the best area, especially for parking. Can be very intimidating to work among such established researchers

Sacramento, CA

Current Employee – been working at UC Davis

ProsThe Health benefits are great
Some of the people I work with are great
The yearly staff appreciation fair is a good faith effort

ConsNo room for advancement
Pay is poor
If you aren't management your treated like dirt
there is some discrimination with the dress code, as it is different for every building
Management get bonuses when, there haven't been any pay raises in the last couple of years, there are lay-offs as well as forced furloughs.

Advice to Senior ManagementWake up! Everyone that isn't management works harder than the management and the executives, the people that make the Med Center as profitable as it is, should be getting yearly bonuses, not the people who sit and delegate all day. the staff should be provided with yearly bonuses as an incentive to continue doing the great work that they do and revise the advancement protocols! Once your an assistant no one gives you the opportunity to lose that title, even if the person is capable of so much more.

Sacramento, CA

Former Employee – worked at UC Davis

ProsStable employment, great benefits, lots of time off, collegial environment. My job was low pressure but I got to do lots of interesting things.

ConsAlmost impossible to fire low performers. Lots of abuse from people who work the system. Difficult to move up once you're at the top of your pay scale.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate more. Streamline systems so that every department or group is not a fiefdome unto themselves. Publish more org charts. Better define organizational hierarchy.
