I have been working at UC Irvine

    Pros

I love the campus and its nearby cities like Newport beach. Great weather all year round. Nice faculty to work with. Nice graduate housing.

    Cons

The pay is low to cover all the costs

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I believe they could pay more to the PhD students. Also, some departments pay more than the others to the students which is not fair.

  7. Best work-study experience at UCI Career Center

Former Employee - Student Resource Assistant in Irvine, CA

    I worked at UC Irvine

    Pros

Counselors who really care for your future
Get to learn all the ins and outs of career searching after college
    Warm environment

    Cons

It can get a little slow sometimes but that just depends on if a lot of students visit the center or not.
There's definitely something to do all the time though, you just have to find it.
Not many cons I can think of.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at UC Irvine full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Two great bosses who were supportive and helpful; did what they could to mitigate the crazy budget cuts; helpful new Dean who genuinely cares. Vast majority of the staff were helpful and easy to deal with.

    Cons

The across-the-board budget cuts (weren't the UC's fault, but still weren't fun); at times the office culture could be a bit rough; as an academic, forget about work-life balance. It just doesn't exist.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More accountability for the more senior folks on the faculty.
Mentoring opportunities for younger/newer folks were rather sparse.

  10. UC Irvine Comprehensive Review Reader

I have been working at UC Irvine

    Pros

Temporary position for the University to read freshman applications. You can work from home after attending 2 on-campus trainings and one through ReadyTalk.

    Cons

Lots of reading. Take breaks as needed and keep track of your hours and number of reads, as the online system does not track your number easily.

  11. This is a very fantastic university for its specified courses, kind professors and beautiful campus.

    Pros
