    Pros

We have a lot of freedom to do the job how we see fit. Sometims any way. sometimes we get micromanaged by people who think they're smart but really are not.

    Cons

Dr's nurses and administrators treat you like scum bag. There is no professional development or feedback, or training

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do inservices on things that will give us a better understanding of our role and how to perform better. Help us understand the perspective of the physician and nursing staff, and help them understand our perspective.

I have been working at UC San Diego Health System

    Pros

The best reason to work here is that it is a fun and stable job. The people are friendly and the city is calm.

    Cons

The hours of operation are rather taxing. There are a lot of times where you are left with a lot of work on your plate and no one will help you

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would like to see a bit more cooperation with the senior staff members. I have not feel so alone in such a work environment

I worked at UC San Diego Health System

    Pros

    - Lots of people to connect with
    - Get a good medical background
    - Great experience as a student
    - Medical Center Badge

    Cons

    - Busy work (esp. as student)
    - Sometimes it's a hectic environment to try and seek support from superiors so you have to take advantage of opportunities

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Although some are just student workers I advise to really have someone at least supervise and ensure that they will get as much out of the work experience as possible. You as a manager will get really efficient help and your employee will gain valuable experience.

I have been working at UC San Diego Health System

    Pros

Pay is significantly higher than that offered by other employers
    13 paid holidays per year
10 hours of vacation earned each month (for FT employees)
8 hours of sick time earned each month (for FT employees)
Very good health, pharmacy, and dental benefits

    Cons

Complex hierarchy of management - the beaurocracy can make it difficult to communicate concerns to management. Even if concerns are stated, it is difficult to determine whose job it is to address them.

Union dues are deducted from each paycheck, regardless of the employee's wishes.

AFSCME (the union to which most employees belong) has a strong influence on the center's policies. Many of these policies protect employees who don't pull their weight.
