    Awesome Student Job

    CLICC Consultant (Former Employee)
    Los Angeles, CA

ProsBetter pay amongst student jobs. Very flexible hours, make your own hours every week. Easy coverage procedure. Can often (always) do HW at the job.

ConsSome libraries are far away. Have to do one overnight shift per quarter. Not that many skills transfer to the real world.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere is potential to train students in skills that are needed in very high-paying jobs after college. Networking, TCP, writing issue tickets, etc. could all be added to the CLiCC duties.

    Staff Research Associate (Current Employee)
    Los Angeles, CA

ProsGreat PI relationship and supportive staff. I received a lot of help from other researchers, it has a real sense of community.

ConsCould be a little bit political in the higher ranking faculties
Extremely long hours, including weekend work but I knew that going in, just never realized how extensive it is.

    UCLA Facilities Management

    Electrician (Former Employee)
    Los Angeles, CA

ProsUCLA is a beautiful place to work at. There are quite a few awesome personalities at play in such a diverse community. There are also many brilliant minds within the Facilities Management, academic and medical staff. The University does an excellent job of maintaining the campus and medical center hardscape and interior appearances.

ConsThere is a political atmosphere that can be discouraging at times. It concerns me that cronyism is still very prevalent. Some members of management lack the professionalism that is expected of a sector that handles a large amount of business.

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease the level professionalism amongst managers that have no MBA background. Also I believe The Labor relations may in need of an audit. There are an increasing number of labor disputes that I feel should have been resolved before they reached the ,leaving a negative stain on an otherwise pleasant work atmosphere.

    Great School

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsLots of different groups and opportunities. The classes are challenging but make for a great education overall.

ConsIt's hard to walk up the hills especially if you live on campus, but it comes with having a big campus!

    Programmer Analyst at UCLA

    Programmer Analyst III (Current Employee)
    Los Angeles, CA

ProsUCLA is a great place to work if you are in the right dept. Stable, many professional development opportunities but you have to be self motivated. No one will push you out of your comfort zone.

ConsSalaries are much lower than outside the University.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees, the technical people who actually get the work done, and be supportive to them.

I have been working at UCLA full-time for more than 15 years. I gained valuable life and work experience.

    Administrative Analyst (Former Employee)
    Los Angeles, CA

ProsThey are on the edge of Technology, Medicine and Research. There were seminars and training to teach you based on your job description.

ConsSenior staff refuse to share imformation regarding job function, but instructors/teachers was very kind and supportive! Can be bureaucratic and there are division/departments within the organization where good management practices are lacking.

Advice to Senior ManagementSenior staff should be required to share imformation regarding job function, don't rely on co-workers to train new staff members. Classes should be required for all new staff members by instructors/teachers regarding job title.
