I worked at UCLA full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Good work/life balance if you are lucky to have a good manager which I didn't have. Benefits were good

    Cons

There is absolutely no formal training for the job function you are about to do. Management is not helpful in the sense that you are assumed to have knowledge of all relevant departments of UCLA and have advanced skillset for MS Excel. Guidelines were not set and I had to figure out everything by myself. No feedback at all if I was doing a good or bad job until the day I got let go. Absolutely horrible experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more patient with the people working under you. Be especially patient with new employees. Let them know if they are doing a good job or a bad job and coach them so that they become better.

    Pros

Learn how to work printers and how to print quality art

    Cons

Not very fulfilling, but it isn't supposed to be
Not many hours if you want a lot.
Involves dealing with people, which can be frustrating at times.

    Cons

Diversity was a huge issue. However, faculty did a great job at fostering collaboration between different ethnic groups.

I have been working at UCLA part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Learn a lot from your colleges and students. The quarter is usually 10 weeks long. So the work load is not that heavy.

    Cons

Except the CS35L.... This class is extremely time consuming for teaching. YOU ARE THE INSTRUCTOR!!!! Professor only meets with you regularly. You have to give lecture, grade homework, make the exams and grade them all by yourself!

I have been working at UCLA full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunities for self development and growth if you take the initiative. Good benefits and many opportunities to participate in the extra activities at UCLA, whether it is volunteer, or the many academic, arts and sports events.

    Cons

Pay will not be competitive with the outside market. Housing near the campus is expensive. Traffic in the area is also congested. However there are many transportation services available for getting to campus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward and grow staff talent who deliver results!

    Recommends
    Positive Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
