    Pros

remote position, start-up atmosphere but backed by university so funding is not an issue.

    Cons

strange politics, constantly-shifting mission, odd goals, pointless mandatory meetings, they keep the not-very-productive people and push out productive people

Don't go to their IT department. They fire three people in one month due to very suspect reasons.

    Pros

Employee have the privilege of attending the courses they provide. Once course per semester.

    Cons

Very bad working experience. They just promoted a new manager in IT department. The guy fired three people whom he doesn't like in a roll. A newly hired employee was dismissed in two weeks with flimsy reason.

    Advice to Management

Watch out when you apply any IT position here! Talk to the previous employees before you make decision to take the offer. Otherwise, you will be the next to be fired....

    Pros

Excellent colleagues, good senior management, good benefits and flexible work schedule. As a higher education learning environment, I enjoyed working with most individuals, and politics weren't over-emphasized. There is good support from the main campus to grow and bring new programs to Extension. New facility in Santa Clara.

    Cons

Tough deficit environment, due to prior management errors, although efforts to stabilize have helped.

    Pros

Pride in working for the UC system Great life/work balance allowed Offera a valuable service Allows plenty of opportunities to learn and grow Its classes are available for free to employees Wonderful instructors and students Terrific benefits

    Cons

It struggles to operate as a business when it is run by academics. Moral tends to be low It does not hire skilled leaders and favoritism is rife.

    Pros

Get in the door and you can stay forever if you want The UC system has one of the last defined benefit retirement packages in existence Better working environment than on UCSC campus Small team means it's easy to get things done by just walking over and talking to your coworkers

    Cons

Not much to do Poor compensation Will not advance your career much As much about politics as tech work

    Advice to Management

None - they do great with what they're given to work with, which is never enough.
