I worked at UCSD Moores Cancer Center

    Pros

Friendly and awesome environment. Very team driven and colleagues are all friendly. Really felt like I was part of a giant family. The management is also very caring and always available in order to help out employees

    Cons

Nothing much to say except that there would be some office gossip

    Recommends

I worked at UCSD Moores Cancer Center full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Not so many worries about funding, lots of flexibility to be creative and do things for the sake of science. Work life balance is good.

    Cons

Little oversight, no merit-based promotions, ceiling is pretty low for certain degree levels, UCSD system can be pretty annoying with policies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Support staff more in their attempts to further their career. UCSD is a great place to retire because of the benefits, but that means it's a place full of older people with less creativity / open minds.

I have been working at UCSD Moores Cancer Center full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

good benefits - new employees get 3 weeks of vacation per year, good retirement benefits
Great place to work for clinical research
Location is awesome, but very expensive

    Cons

HR department does not know anything and they are not helpful. Almost all jobs are covered by the union and they don't tell you until after you are hired. Union dues are automatically taken out of your paycheck and you can't withdraw from the union. My salary was capped because of a union equity policy. When you call HR, they never know if certain policies apply to you so you can't get answers.
    Transportation to campus is awful

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

provide more opportunities for employees to meet and know management and more opportunities for career growth.
