    A career ladder

    Licensed Vocational Nurse (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsSuch a great place to work. Great benefits, great reputation. If you want an opportunity to grow and learn, work here.

ConsFor the amount of structure at UCSF, there is very little useful orientation to specific jobs, such as nursing. It is very much a 'learn as you go' sort of operation which, in nursing, can be detrimental.

Advice to Senior ManagementOrient new employees a bit more gracefully.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

I work with great front-line staff, but administrators are out of touch and frustrate the mission.

    Senior Surgical Tech (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsThe benefits are great, the staff are passionate about what we do - there's a sense of pride in being among the top here.

ConsNot enough staff, the administrators make decisions - about staffing, especially - that reflect that they have been out of clinical practice for too long and have become overly concerned with short-term profit goals. Clinical care suffers because of it, which hurts patients and our reputation. Pay and other things, like parking and seniority, are not as good as most other places, like Kaiser.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet back to practicing medicine for a while and forgo just one bonus - it may reorient your priorities.

    Content environment

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsIt really depends on which department you work for but employees are generally content with working conditions...

Cons...however with the changes to the benefits changing, people are leaving if they don't have much time invested. Pay is lower compared to most comparable institutions and while the benefits were always touted as being the best, these are deteriorating.

Advice to Senior ManagementRespect and invest in the staff beneath you. You're losing a lot of good people who you train and then leave. Continue to hire people who are bright and hard working but be more careful to also choose team players as this is a crucial factor in the workplace.

    Who says Slavery is Over???

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsA very diverse group of workers who all care very much and hope that what they do makes a difference in someone's life. whether it is a researcher, someone who cooks, or someone who takes care of patients. everyone here care very much.

ConsManagement has no idea what a great resource they have in their employee's. Workers go above and beyond on a daily basis and are never recognized for their performances or their efforts. Management is concerned with one thing and one thing only the Bottom LINE and that's it. It is a shame too. Ask ay patient care worker what happens when the State comes in for inspection. Ohh the halls are clear, because they put all the spare equipment and beds that usually clutter the hall in the Garden St warehouse or in a semi-truck until the inspection if over and then it's clutter and hazard again in the hallways. Oh don't get hurt at UCSF because they will string you along with BS until you give up on your injury and suffer. UCSF's motto is BS. Caring, NOT Healing Not of employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementBuy a clue, All the high priced ads all over town do not make up for the horrible way you treat your employees

    Great staff, bad management

    Diagnostic Sonographer (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsThe staff are well educated, work hard, and do their best with the limited resources that are provided.

ConsUnderstaffed regularly, stressful work environment, high staff turn over, and out of touch senior management that seems more concerned about their profit margin and bonuses than supporting patient care.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe benefits used to be great, but they are eroding and expensive compared to competitors. Treating your workers with respect will be a reward. Understaffing leads to work injuries to the staff and patients.

    I love to work here

Principal Food Service Worker (Former Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsGood work environment, good compensation package, good management, provide cash credit for dietary employees

ConsDriving is not an option for many employees, shuttle service is okay but not excellent. Otherwise, UCSF is a fantastic place to work at

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove the shuttle service for those who take public transportation to the facilities.

Great place to work in SF. Nice benefits pkg.

    Senior Server Engineer (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsLots of scheduling flexibility available. Great shuttle system to get between campuses, especially useful if you live close to a campus.

ConsParking issues. Labor reduction initiatives are planned across the organization. For the 3rd year in a row, there will be job responsibilities combined.

Advice to Senior ManagementOften times clear direction is not given and sometimes seems intentionally vague. Some managers who actually want to listen to their employees do not have the time to do so.
