Pros
competent management, commitment to making the firm successful at a new level, willing to bring people up as they improve, recognize hard work and commitment
Cons
Benefits are usual for Public- dismal, Mgmt does not share decisions regarding departmental changes in a full forthcoming manner, policy regarding credit for sales of work can be murky.
Advice to Senior Management
A little more information regarding internal matters, more emphasis on national opportunities for employees, emphasis on retention of good employees
Pros
Good experience to learn a lot of different audit areas working on smaller clients. I respected the managers and seniors I worked for.
Cons
Communication from management about issues at the firm was not very good. It's public accounting so during busy season you work a lot.
Advice to Senior Management
Be open with your staff about issues and concerns to prevent gossip and frustration. Overall I learned a lot while I was there.
Pros
Decent benefits, ability to learn a lot, and location is in a pretty good area. The ability to earn a lot of time off which is nice in the summer.
Cons
Some of the most anti-social people I have ever met, way too uptight, partner's are so greedy and would sell their mom's for the right price, and the company is so cheap.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop being so greedy and treat your employee's like human beings. Also no need to tell people about tough economic times when you pull up in a Cadillac Escalade.
Pros
Variety of learning opportunities. Diverse client base. Relationship building. Advancement. Training. I have found that all of these apply at UHY.
Cons
As with any public accounting firm, there are long hours. With deadlines, it can get very stressful. Some might consider it political.
Advice to Senior Management
I feel that there should be more professional development at all levles.. Younger staff need to be better trained in soft skills.
Pros
Great work and life balance allowed. Partners more than willing to help. Excellent if you want to work in the middle market.

Not a great fit if you want to do international work.

Live up to your promises
Pros
There are many dedicated, talented and genuinely good people to work with. The work can be fulfilling if you are in the right work group.
It appears that the accounting staff is given great training on a regular basis.
Cons
There is a lack of respect from the top down. There is considerable attention given to charity causes, but it would be great if charity started at home, so to speak. Hourly staff is not respected and the training is very hit and miss, disorganized, not tended to. There is a tendency to use people up, including the accounting staff. Often there is an atmosphere of fear, waiting for the next one to be terminated.
The HR department does not operate for the benefit of employees, matters are not confidential and the ambush terminations are downright scary.
As far as benefits, the costs are high, contribution to 401(k) is non-existent, and there is no sick time at all. If you don't have PTO, you're out of luck.
Advice to Senior Management
The company would prosper to a much greater extent if workplace bullying was not sanctioned in order to preserve a partner's vanity. If you treat all your employees with respect and human kindness and put your religious convictions into practice, you will reap the rewards. Technical competence alone should not be the basis for promotion to management. Will the managers and partners ever be trained in developing, tending to and fostering their human capital? You could benefit from getting in touch with what really goes on in both Michigan locations and learning what it is like for those in the "trenches", if the consequences for honest sharing weren't so dire to those on the lower rungs of the ladder.

Cons
-Long hours, no rewards.
-The company lost dozen of people in the last few months in the Houston office and the business volume is shrinking day after day
-salary is not competitive
-training is non existent
-no internal communication
-higher management keep describing the firm as a top firm when in fact is nothing but a mediocre company
-no valuable information during company meetings
-no clear direction
-you are constantly reminded that "there are no fixed costs" and anyone could lose the job at any moment
-small firm, narrow minds

Value and reward your employees in order to retain your work force, especially when everybody is leaving.
