    Pros

I learned how to use new tools.

    Cons

It was a different form of documentation than I had used. There wasn't anything wrong with it, but it took some getting used to.

    Advice to Management

I had great upper management. I keep in contact with my direct report there.

    Pros

UMB has a culture that inspires excellence internally. They promote community involvement, sustainability, and have great benefits like transportation, adoption and education assistance.

    Cons

If you have any issues working at UMB, management will find a solution for you. One downfall is the formal business dress code and no non-traditional work schedules.

    Advice to Management

It would be fantastic to drop the formal dress code for non customer facing positions. Non-traditional work schedules would help improve the work / life balance.

I worked at UMB Financial Corporation

    Pros

Good benefits, good pay. Good company to start a career with. Always try to better employee satisfaction by having direct inputs.

    Cons

401k could be better matching. High medical coverage cost and pre-conditions attached. Could be little more proactive to solve employee issues rather than reactive.

    Advice to Management

Try to be more proactive to solve employee issues. Take quick actions rather than dragging.

    Pros

Stability and solid benefits make this conservative financial institution a good employer. Top level management has solid conservative financial vision combined with open minded forward thinking business approach.

    Cons

Consistent management methods and internal growth opportunities need to be strengthened, however, management was working on improving consistency throughout the company when I had to move on.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to increase internal motivation and moral by increased bonus pay opportunity. Base salaries could use a bump too but this rarely motivates.
Don't say the money isn't available for bonus or benefit programs - discretionary cash dividend payments for stockholders has nearly doubled in ten years while salaries have remained stagnant.

    Pros

UMB has some of the best people working for them. Made lifelong friends and enjoyed my tenure there. Management is good overall and really cares about your development.

    Cons

The pay for quality employees is lacking. Many great employees leave and employee similar careers elsewhere due to lack of performance raises/pay. New employees will come in making more than experienced, tenured employees.

    Advice to Management

Focus on retaining and compensating quality employees rather than hiring from outside.

    Pros

Executive management very engaging. Trying to get out of the mold of the 80s and 90s. Very focused on growth of the company and willing to listen to non-traditional ideas

    Cons

Still a fair amount of cronyism going on. Some measures are paid attention to at the expense of core issues. Difficult conversations do not happen, but messengers are often shot.

    Advice to Management

Find out root issues before running off half-cocked. Deal with core problems and the others will disappear.
