I have been working at UNUM full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Employee development is a focus. The work is challenging, interesting, and fun. Overall, employees from the newest entry-level position to the CEO appear to enjoy what they do and their colleagues. Strong benefits package including PTO. Although not every area may have this, many positions allow significant flexibility for alternative work arrangements (work at home and scheduling). The product (benefit) Unum offers is a true need, and Unum's employees take pride in the services they offer to individuals and companies.

    Cons

The financial services industry is heavily regulated, and like with any large company, bureaucratic processes can become burdensome to quick action. Additionally, because the company is so large and consists of so many departments, it can be difficult to feel like you have your bearings.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to move the company to an "outside-in" focus. Remove process barriers for employees at all levels.

I worked at UNUM full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Salary/PTO. co-workers. The medical knowledge you gain. Casual dress code. The friends you make within a team environment

    Cons

So many to list....senior management NEEDS TO BE CLEANED out.....they are clueless. You are WORKED to death there. Doesn't matter if you work from which ( which was worse) they literally work you to death and you are put on earnings when you busy your butt working 14 hours a day and still can't get your work done. Claims area is a nightmare don't let ANYONE tell you different. So many back stabbers and STD managers are HORRIBLE they could care less they hang out and leave...HORRIBLE place to work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Plenty of advice is given to management EVERY SINGLE year in an employee survey IT NEVER CHANGES. in fact it's gotten so bad with service they have lost HUGE accounts. You Get what you pay for. When you don't pay for help and overwork what you do have you are bound to fail.

I have been working at UNUM full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Competitive salaries with generous benefits and paid time off. Management seems very willing to help you continue with career development.

    Cons

Recent college graduates from private colleges with no experience are placed into higher roles than individuals who have public university degrees and are excelling int he workplace. This can be very frustrating to sit back and watch while you have to prove your worth against that of a recent graduate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more conscious of the talent you already have and continue to help that grow while also bringing in ripe new talent.
