    I worked at UPM-Kymmene

    Pros

Get enironment for learning new skills and working with different types of instrumentation. Client contracts allow for different types of drug testing than a stand alone commerical facility would provide. Great staff to work with

    Cons

Not enough time provided to complete all assigned tasks for work. Employee's work long hours (they are compensated) but you will never have a point were you feel as though you are caught up with work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get more employees to help with work load

I worked at UPM-Kymmene full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Really smart, hard-working employees in a challenging global environment.

    Cons

Declining industry revenues have led to several years of cost-cutting by the global part in Finland. Many of the hard workers do not get appropriate recognition (either monetary or non-monetary) for all their .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Only a few employees there seem to keep get rewarded year-after-year. Spread out the recognition to others who are also working hard every day.

    Pros

Global presence, global approach to industry.

    Cons

Hubris on the part of Finnish managment. Assume that best practices in Europe would also apply to North America without alloting for customer and employee preferences. Some management team members are in over their head.

I have been working at UPM-Kymmene

    Pros

This company's business is based on biomass turned into products. Virtually nothing gets wasted in the process, which is good for the business as well as for the planet. As a group, different business units make use of what othe runit might regarded useless. There also a no "holy cows" anymore .... non-profitable businesses are cut away.

    Cons

Being in a wrong place may mean not as long carrier, after all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Few words every week about the achieving the mission through examples never harms.

I have been working at UPM-Kymmene full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Proactive, innovative especially considering it's a paper company. Various segments in different stages so they must adapt...paper is dying. Strong focus on areas such as label stock, biofuels as they attempt to diversify from just paper.
Culture is good, employees are valued.

Slow to hire, slow to fire.

    Cons

Very flat management so not much room to grow. Office politics do exist unfortunately despite what you may think with company being Finnish.
Some management are lacking...there are a lot of intelligent, sharp, younger employees that need more exposure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep communication strong with employees practice what you preach with ethics and honesty. It's been pretty good thus far.
