I worked at UPS full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - good place for starter and politicians
    - good place for stability in same position for years
    - If you are looking for a location to become non productive and if you are politician as majority of people who work here are then this is the right place for you,
More over if you work hard and get things done, then get ready to be blamed and get ready to work days and night to resolve some one else problem as they screwed up and it is your fault.

    Cons

    - One of the lowest paying company
    - to much politics
    - laid back
    - management is like spider web
    - not so clear and easy environment as employee is managed by 1 team, product by some one else, development by some one else as a result small change takes a lot of time and effort.
    - management is not ready to accept changes and feedback.
    - When you show your management that you have be offered twice as much as you are getting paid then get ready to hear blames like you are trying to recruit people rather than respective the hard work they have put in company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Those 20% of people who work hard they are not your slaves they work hard because they care. Don't blame them when 80% people screw up things.
When the company says you are paying the competitive salary compared to market, don't advertise it when it is not true when employee prove it by showing you multiple offers which pays twice much as you pay.

I worked at UPS full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Valid technical experience, true global company, good support tools

    Cons

Poor work life balance, ad hoc training, preference for scolding employee errors due to lack of training, rather than providing correct training. Poor pay for a Fortune 50 company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Normalize shifts to 5 8's instead of 4 10's, stop rotating day/night every 3 months. Incorporate formal training in a non production setting.

I have been working at UPS full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Hard to get fired.

    Cons

Outdated systems, processes, and facilities. Management to high up in the clouds to understand the impact of the decisions they hand down. Nepotism, favoritism and good ole boyish abound, which places unqualified people in positions for which they are not suited. The company will never change because it doesn't need to, UPS will be here. A lot of young employees leave frustrated. This is also an SCS centric review.

    Pros

Looks good on resume - Fortune 500 company

    Cons

    Limited scope for career growth
Not diversed with respect to ethnicity, sex and age. Leadership team mainly comprise of older employees in terms of age and tenure and are male.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on career development, cross training and increase diversity among the team, diversity with respect to sex, age and ethnicity. Very few women are in senior leadership positions. Most of the leadership team are male and have been with the company for 20+ years and are stuck in the old school way of doing things. The world is changing rapidly with technology, social media and so many other things and UPS needs to take advantage of this with fresh minds.

    Pros

Excellent upper management that treats its employees fairly.

    Cons

Some middle management uses the knowledge and suggestions of their employees to only benefit themselves and do not share the recognition to those that made these suggestions or improvements.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your lower level employees with the same ear that you listen to from your upper management peers.
