Pros
The strong union .Great benefits. The free health and dental care paid by the company. The pay is good as you progress over the years.
Cons
The A.M. hours are tough in the preload. You start off part time and it takes between 7-10 years to get a full time position which means you will be a part time employee for 7-10 years.
Pros
It provides extra income around the Christmas holidays, but if you're over 40 years of age, regardless of how good of shape you are in, be prepared for pain and long physical recovery periods.
Cons
The pay is ridiculous for the amount of work and the physical strain it puts on your body combined with the unrealistic expectations of the delivery schedule.
Advice to Senior Management
Increase the pay or reduce the workload. It's no wonder so many of the temporary employees leave in the first week.
Pros
the company offers a lot. the benefits are awesome and your guaranteed a decent amount raises every 6 months as long as you don't go into management .once your a full time driver your going to make between 75k-90k.free benefits 5 personal days and a couple weeks of vacation and off on weekends.so if your not book smart but still want a comfortable life style then ups is the way to go oh and its also unionized =job security
Cons
its takes ad least 7 to 10 years to become a full time driver . hard labor and getting up mon-fri from 3ish to 9 for the next 7 years...yeah doesn't sound too great. but if you stick it out your set.... Ive been there for 3 years now
Advice to Senior Management
it could be worked on
Pros
Working for a large company as sales person is great since it opens doors that would remain closed. Job security is the #1 reason to work here. You really have to screw up or stop working in order to get fired.
Cons
Good luck getting any support on anything. Also, you can forget all about your personal life if you accept a management position. The base pay is not terrible, but the compensation for your sales is not only laughable, it requires a matrix in order to calculate. Seriously, there is an internal test to see if you understand the compensation structure.
Advice to Senior Management
Find a way to keep the new crop of young and goal oriented minds in the company. You can do this by better placing employees in areas which they will thrive at. Not all drivers like driving, not all managers like managing. Help them find their niche, instead of filling a "spot". Learn from us; ask questions and listen to your employees.
Also, pay your sales people not on what they grow, but also on what they retain. It's a two-party carrier system. The 80-20 rule does not dissappear just because you don't pay for it. Working to keep a profitable customer should be just as appreciated as winning a new one. Right now, I get paid more in the long run when I lose a customer and win them back, then if I just kept them.
Pros
The physical job is a great workout but dont hurt your back.
Cons
Safe work methods when audits are being done. Packages before safety and people the rest of the time.
Advice to Senior Management
Get real about the package flow on belts. Belts would stay running and fewer damaged packages would exsist if a managed flow rate would be maintained. Balls to the wall bust packages and bust employees.
Pros
Somre reasons to work at UPS are to earn and learn with tuition reimbursement, steady work, weekly pay, health benefits
Cons
The cons of UPS are the shift hours from 4am-9am, very little training or support for how to be a part-time supervisor. You are lost trying to figure it out for yourself.
Advice to Senior Management
Provide more training for part-time supervisors, need to systemize the business overall more effectively and efficiently to reduce runaway labor and produce better service
Pros
great company, excellent reputation, quality training, extrordinary benefits
Cons
need better information flow, ie from human resources to employees, sometimes i have felt led to believe that advancement is unattainable without 7 or 8 years of service.
Advice to Senior Management
help people to believe they can move up the ladder and they will strive to do so. make sure your HR is not discouraging people from seeking advancement.
Pros
Is this a joke?
The hours - 3am-9am in a building with no air conditioning.
The pay - You'll be pressured into forfeiting a portion to the United Way.
Career advancement - Who needs a career anyway?
Cons
My favorite moment at UPS was reading a message in a bathroom stall that said: "Under Paid Slaves"
This organization leads by intimidation. "Management" retains employees with empty promises of career advancement. Want to progress from part-time management to full-time management? You better plan on delivering packages instead. But wait! You have a degree? It doesn't matter - none of my managers had a college education. UPS is managed by truck drivers, not leaders.
Advice to Senior Management
Please stay at UPS for the rest of your career. Spare the rest of us from ever having to work with you again.
