Pros
Your job is secure in that it is a long standing fortune 500 Company. You have the ability to work in several fields within the company of you are willing to relocate.
Cons
Management are expected to accomplish there jobs in an unrealistic amount of time with no overtime allowed. You are made to feel like you are shorting the company if you leave in your paid 5.5 hours a day however you are not allowed overtime if you decide to stay to complete your tasks.
Advice to Senior Management
Give ones incentives to doing a good job. Give them an opportunity to make more money without giving up there lives to do so.
Pros
The opportunity to get some stellar benefit packages and lots of mobility within the company. Got to work with some alright characters.
Cons
Lots of hours, started late/end late and low wage. Hadn't made so little since I have been 17. The opportunity for advancements start with equally undesirable work. Got to work with guys who complained too much when making 3.5x my wage.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay more and you'll recruit better helpers, probably why you were getting no shows when it rained and had to keep hiring 2 weeks to the holidays.
Pros
compensation and benefits are good
Cons
terrible employee morale which makes it hard
Advice to Senior Management
Better interpersonal relations training
Pros
It provides extra income around the Christmas holidays, but if you're over 40 years of age, regardless of how good of shape you are in, be prepared for pain and long physical recovery periods.
Cons
The pay is ridiculous for the amount of work and the physical strain it puts on your body combined with the unrealistic expectations of the delivery schedule.
Advice to Senior Management
Increase the pay or reduce the workload. It's no wonder so many of the temporary employees leave in the first week.
Pros
Good company, promotes from within
Cons
Low pay, can be political
Advice to Senior Management
Pay appropriately for top talent
Pros
Great benefits after probationary period. Unionized. Opportunity to eventually advance in your career. Fortune 500 company. Easy job mentally if you can put up with the physical demands of the job.
Cons
The level of pay starting out is a complete joke. The compensation barely covers the gas money it takes to drive to a UPS warehouse. Benefits should start after 3 months.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your employees better by giving them a better starting level of compensation. There is no reason why the starting wage is only two dollars more now an hour more than it was thirty some-odd years ago.
Pros
You can get full time benefits while working part time. The pay is better here than other companies. The people are fun to work with and you can work to be a driver.
Cons
The wor is real hard. The warehouse can get dusty from all the boxes. It is really loud in there too.
Advice to Senior Management
Maybe stat the benefits package a little earlier fom start date. Keep the scholarship fund going, it is a great thing.
Pros
Best pay and benifits in the industry, period!
Cons
Takes a long time to gain enough seniority to get this job. Management is very anti personnel. They do not get the same benefits or pay and are on salary.
Advice to Senior Management
Go back to hiring only from within for management. Only people who have actually sucessfully performed the job, should supervise the job.
Pros
The company pays management well compared to other transportation industries, although that's probably due to the wages the union drivers earn. Time off usually isn't an issue and most employees at the front line get along well.
Cons
The company is controlled by industrial engineers that can't function at the front line or manage people. Generally when the engineers are placed in operations they fail miserably, yet these people control how the business is run. Also, promotions are curious. It seems unclear how some higher ups got to that level.
Advice to Senior Management
put the right people in the right roles in the organization. Let the people who know how to best run their centers make the controlling decisions.
Pros
The job is incredibly easy to get. You'll get a lot of excercise. It's good pocket money for students I guess.
Cons
Oh where to begin. The pay is horrible for the amount of work you do, you're expected to work in all weather conditions but the uniform is not water retardant so on rainy days you'll be soaked through to your underwear, the job only lasts 5-6 weeks but you're forced to join the union who take a nice chunk out of your already minuscule paycheck, your hours are never steady (you're done when you have no more packages) so its hard to plan any other aspect of your life around the job, and the human resources people automatically assume you're lazy and will harass you if you call out sick.
Advice to Senior Management
Get your act together. The helpers do everything the drivers do (except drive) but are paid a fraction of the salary. Some drivers even use the helper as a way to do as little work as possible and rack up overtime during the holidays.
