Pros
Ups offers great benefits, a flexible work schedule, and management that tries to allow you to balance your professional and personal life.
Cons
Entry level, UPS offers a very low wage for the amount of work you must do. As a supervisor they constantly want you to observe and look for negative behavior to the point that you become focused on the negative not the positive.
Advice to Senior Management
Sometimes you cannot always observe unsafe behavior. In the daily observations that supervisors are required to turn in, allow for no unsafe behavior to be recorded.
Pros
beneifits, vacations, people, hours, responsibility
Cons
unknowledgeable management, need mgr, just put a body there, dont matter if they are mgmt material
Advice to Senior Management
gain knowledge, respect is earned, surround yourself with intelligent people & they will propell you in your success. Publicly down grading people is a not only a lack of character but also a lack of self esteem also a sign of ignorance.
Pros
Not micro- managed as much as other warehouse jobs....
Cons
heavy loads, long mid day shifts... no flexibility...
Pros
money, benefits, skills, opportunity, not much more
Cons
hours, pay, people, drivers, slackers
Advice to Senior Management
none
Pros
Flexibility to run your own territory and build relationships with customers.
Cons
horrible sales plans and the compensation package is difficult to understand.
Advice to Senior Management
Build sales plans for each market don't unveil what you are telling the street we are going to do and expect every market to pull those numbers through. It isn't an inspiring place to work, lots of paperwork and a compensation package that lacks a lot of lustier.
Pros
The only pro is that they do have good benefits for part-time workers. Some of these benefits can rival most full-time positions at higher levels.
Cons
Very cut-throat environment where it is obvious that upper management will never look to help you out. For the most part they use lower levels as a scapegoat to cover themselves when those under them were not even apart of a particular situation. Always talked down to and treated as if stupid or have no general knowledge of anything. Always looking to save a penny so if you are looking for some kind of fix with anything, good luck. Some things have been broken for months and look to never be replaced (that is very common practice). Very common to see a revolving door of employees of lasting only a year or less. This is usually due to managment not caring for their employees since they do not treat their employees as people but more as a part to a machine. Be prepared to be grinded into the ground. Overall, I would never reccomend anyone to work for this place.
Advice to Senior Management
A word of advice is to treat your employees with some respect and actually support them. Its ironic that they preach to give more appreciative feedback than constuctive but all you hear is constructive everywhere. A good start is to actually practice what you preach to people.
Pros
The benefits for part timers is good
Cons
Working conditions are under par

Pros
UPS is a farm system. The more time with them you have, the more of an asset you'll be. The pay and benefits only come with time. For Union workers It takes 18 months to get insurance for yourself. 24 for dependents. However, the insurance is exceptionally well for the work you do. Perhaps the best insurance in Louisville period. Pay increases with time. 35 to 50 cents every August and February after you have finished your probationary period. Metro College program that can pay for college completely. (Louisville only)
Cons
Very few full-time positions for union or management. Union keeps you employed however, you pay union dues every third Thursday of the month. When you start, you are making paychecks around 80 to 110 dollars a week. You have to pay union initiation and monthly fees that destroys your already painfully small paycheck. Most of the jobs are at night. Most part time and full time supervisors are okay but it is the high upper management who come out of nowhere (Particularly during peak season) and start telling you to change the way you work because they don't work in the trucks and feeders and just look at how it is in the book and demand they you change. There is the book and then there is reality. However, they usually leave after one day.
Management from part time supervisor and up are not part of the union and therefore, not part of the union. They lose the protection and union insurance. Unless they want to pay 2,000 dollars for it. Part time sups are just glorified quality trainers. However, if you want to work full time professional jobs at UPS, 98% of them have to pay their dues working low pay part time sup jobs.
Most work areas are loud and provide no ear protection. Only workers who work outside get ear protection.
Very hard to balance school or second day jobs. Don't rely solely on Metro College to pay for college because if you don't have a loan, grant or other form of payment to make to the school at the beginning of the semester and you fail a class or make a D, UPS won't pay for that class and lots of people doing this fail because they can't handle night shift and day school and UofL or JCC won't allow you to resign for the following semester because of your debt. Back yourself up. You might realize halfway through a semester that you can't handle night shift and school. Choose school by making sure you're still covered with school.
Advice to Senior Management
The problem is that UPS keeps changing the math to decide how improved volume is so they can justify whether or not to give raises or not. Union is corrupt as well. Both entities just try to avoid doing the work to help the little man.
Pros
Weekly pay, Ability to maintain a personal life, post-season opportunities, and lots of exercise (if you want it)
Cons
Minimum wage does not add up to work load. Some drivers will; feed you, help you (as they should), and make sure you're good at all times.....SOME WILL NOT because they are inconsiderate and have no respect for newcomers who receive little pay. Working in the rain sucks, but I expect it so no biggie
Advice to Senior Management
Figure out a better structure for helper assignment. No one likes to be bounced around to always make new accomodations. Ensure that drivers are not completely dogging the helpers in any sense of the word. It's totally disrespectful and unacceptable.
Pros
-Healthcare Benefits are amazing
-Management opportunities
-Can be fun depending on work environment
Cons
-Management can be disrespectful and lack management skill themselves
-Low pay at first
