Pros
good exercise
full health care coverage
education reimbursement
decent vacation package
holiday pay
military friendly
Cons
You are worked very hard and fast due to them trying to get the job done with the least amount of employee's
managers wear a chip on their shoulder thinking they can do your job better, and harp on you if you don't go fast enough
Advice to Senior Management
have enough people to do the job so that every person doesn't have to do the work of 1 1/2 - 2 people.
Pros
UPS is proud that it has been around for so long and the people that work there are proud to be employees. It is a great brand and a company that is HUGE on community service and helping others.
Cons
If I work 45 hours in a week its because I had a day off. The demands being placed on the management team are out of control. Anyone that is a salaried employee can expect to work at least 10 hours a day, usually closer to 12, and sometimes up to 15 or 16.
Advice to Senior Management
There needs to be a focus on work life balance, otherwise there are going to be some extremely talented people looking for careers elsewhere.
Pros
Benefits and pension, and good pay
Cons
No recognition, missing checks, bad acknowledgement
Advice to Senior Management
Hire better hr and managers
Pros
ups hired me when other employers were looking at resumes
very streamlined straight forward hiring process, all you need is a pulse and no skeletons in your closet.
surprisingly consistant monday thru friday hours.
no problem with overtime
good exercise, you will be great shape for first runs of ski season.
get to meet folks in your neighborhood.
get the dirt on folks in your neighborhood.
nice customers will give you cookies, and nicer ones will give you rum brownies.
Cons
You want me to what, for for $9.50/ hr???
management wants nothing to do with seasonal hires, they just can't wait until December 24, and then get rid of you.
will promise "advancement opportunity" or "foot in the door" but in reality the only permanent jobs go to people who know somebody in the union.
no appreciation for busting a## for a month. merry christmas, you are now unemployed again.
please do not file for unemployment, we will challenge it, because you have been working less than 30 days.
Advice to Senior Management
try to make the organization a bit more efficient, so that you will need less temporary assistants. try to show just a tiny bit of appreciation to the seasonal help.
Pros
management is a pain in the ass and they pretty much think of u as a machine not a person. if you get in with the right people you will advance.
Cons
union is a nightmare and make a fortune off the employees back, what a great concept. long hours during holidays.
Advice to Senior Management
Like i mentioned above, management is bascily considered blood suckers with me and all of my peers. they do not bend or compromise on anything.
Pros
Work M-F and No Weekends.
Cons
Low pay, they cheat you on time. They dont go by your clock in time. they go by what time they want everyone to come in and start. SO be late or right on the dot because coming in before your time makes you work for free. I doubt others have noticed it by I noticed it my 2nd week there.
Advice to Senior Management
none
Pros
Plenty of hours for the few weeks prior to Christmas. Decent pay. Great colleagues. Overall enjoyable.
Cons
Unless a Driver requests you daily, plan on being with a different Driver each day. Not so fun in wet/ice weather
Advice to Senior Management
Raise hourly wage to $10/hr. You will still be getting a lot of work from the employees and they will feel more rewarded.
Pros
The benefits at UPS are great. You are promoted pretty quickly. If you are in management, they will pay for your school.
Cons
It is a difficult job. In the summer, if you are working in the hub, it is really hot.
Advice to Senior Management
I think that part-time employees deserve a much better pay with the work that they do. Quality will come out of it.
Pros
you can make a extra money
Cons
job is tough and make you tired
Advice to Senior Management
we need more benefit from our job. job is not easy and critical a mistake can cause a problem
Pros
The benefits are unrivaled by any other company. The Teamsters Union negotiates well. Job security: If you can secure a position, there is almost nothing you can be terminated for.
Cons
The choice of shifts is odd. You have to wait for the seniority to move up in union positions.
