I worked at UPS Freight part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Good insurance, paid weekly, decent 401k

    Cons

No room for growth in career, no chance for full time, good ole boy deal, terminal I worked at they kept hiring people off the street full time that upper management knew from prior careers before hiring people full time that was already at company. Pay was poor if you had prior experience. Worst technology in the business, bad equipment, union environment awful, hard to get rid of bad employees.

I have been working at UPS Freight (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The good thing about working at ups is that it's casual attire and close to home.

    Cons

    Training is poor to average.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should show the people under you that you care & respect their time with you. If you don't care. How can you expect the people under you to care. It's a trickle down effect. When things go wrong, just don't put the blame on the person under you because you're told that "someone's head needs to roll". Find where the problem is and fix it. Don't point fingers at everyone before you know where the issue is. That just makes everyone feel like they are being bullied with no cause. Very bad for moral. . .

Company has found a way to suck all of the fun out of a normally fun, enjoyable position. Heavy reporting, no support

    Pros

Benefits are good, and not too expensive

    Cons

Heavy reporting, usually duplicating information in two or more reports. Too much time chasing customer service issues. No real sales support.

I worked at UPS Freight part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

UPS provides the best benefits I've ever had, great pay for the work, and it's a pretty fun job overall.

    Cons

There is almost no work available during slow season. After working there for over two years, there were still some months where I was on call and would get maybe 10 hours a week. If I was lucky. This is due to UPS's policy of hiring people part time only, so when work finally picks up, they hire more people. Andd...the union forcing the best hours to go to people who have been there the longest, instead of people who are the best employees.

In addition, this is not a fun place to be if you are female. Where I worked, there were no other women, which means all sexual tension in the world forever was focused on me. Extremely uncomfortable.

    Also, Swing shift/night shift.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out a way to hire employees full time. I would still be with UPS if I could make a living there year round.

Very low opinion of the company. UPS Small Parcel is decent...Freight has nothing in common with them.

I worked at UPS Freight full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Low co-pays. This is the only consistently positive thing that people are mentioning on the "pro" side.

    Cons

Zero work/life balance. Management by bullying - it's the culture and exists in every terminal in every state in the company. You are belittled until you sign on to work 14 hour days...which is the only way you can get the work done. No rewards. No incentive. Good people quit or get fired. Poor union workers get to run all over management and keep their jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember where you came from. You know what is possible and what is not in terms of workload. You know when extra help is needed. Grow a backbone and fight for what's right.

I have been working at UPS Freight full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Shares some of the good benefits with UPS Parcel. Semi-frequent job advancement opportunities.

    Cons

Excessive hours, poor pay vs time investment, demeaning managers. Hourly employees will have it better than supervisors. Don't expect any help. 12-16 hour days common. Upper management only care about the numbers, which there are hundreds of different measurements. Servicing the customer comes last at times. Very outdated technology making work take excessive amounts of time. This is not UPS - this is a group of companies bought by UPS in a weird transitional period. Will be 5-10+ years before this company catches up to modern standards. Work-life balance is a joke - you will be at work all day and when you get home you'll be so exhausted you'll sleep until you have to go back. Frequently jobs are held by employees whom are injured or out of work for excessive periods of time, and you are expected to pick up their responsibilities.

    Treat your employees like people.
