    Technical Support

    Technical Support Representative (Former Employee)
    Las Vegas, NV

ProsThey offer good benefits, and they do promote from within. They value effort and expect good performance. If you can get past their rule heavy environment, it's a decent place to work.

ConsMicro-management for hourly employees, stringent rules and low tolerance for late arrival and absenteeism. It is difficult to transition out of the call center into the direct service centers.

ProsGreat compensation, benefits and leadership. You have opportunity to meet your customers and create great relationships. Long term career opportunites. Great retirement program. Profit sharing!

ConsLong hard hours...especially Christmas season. Physically this is a very challenging job. If you dont like hard work for good pay...this is not for you.

Great place to work, as long as you don't mind working hard.

Plant Engineering Maintenance Technician (Former Employee)
    Las Vegas, NV

ProsGreat benefits, stable company, tuition reimbursement, all the perks of a union job.

ConsUPS doesn't have a lot of automation. Manual labor all the way.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in modern package handling equipment. It's worth it

Rules and procedures presented in training are not followed and vary between different managers in the call center.

    Tracking Agent (Former Employee)
    Las Vegas, NV

ProsGreat culture and long term security.

ConsHow you do depends much on who you get on the floor originally as a mentor. Supervisors should not be doing things for the customer that they have told you previously to tell the customer were impossible. This builds a body of savvy customers who simply start with "let me talk to a supervisor".

UPS the great skewer of statistics

    Technical Support Representative (Current Employee)
    Las Vegas, NV

    ProsIts a Job,
    Pay is liveable.
    40 hours a week

ConsIts a technical call center run by non technical management for the most part.
Supervisors and Coaches are also non technical for the most part.
    Unneccesary drama almost daily.
Skill or the ability to do the job is not required, just someone that comes to work everyday and will talk to management will get you promoted.
Technical Agents get no training whatsoever, sit down maybe listen to someone for 2 hours then start taking calls.
Management wants you to stay away from ACW Aux (After Call Work) and does not give Cart Blanche access to use the Supervisor directed Aux to help these new agents out. So we have to use ACW to help these agents on their calls to help internal UPS people mostly at package centers out and doing that in the end has an effect on your yearly raise, This is just one example, its an avalanche effect with no thanks for jobs well done only negative consequences.
There are many technical employee's with no technical skill's or employee's that follow the guidelines so closely they SEVERLY limit the ability to help our internal customers, these agents don't have the ability to think outside the box.
A simple unplanned listening to some of these agents would show UPS this problem, The problem with that is the Management, Supervisor's and coaches are very non technical, neither is our QA monitoring group.

Advice to Senior ManagementI love UPS.
But by your lack of corrective action, your lack of technical knowledge or your inability to facilitate your job at the level you are at You are being the largest soft cost to the business.

    Militaristic Organization

    Senior Account Manager (Former Employee)
    Las Vegas, NV

ProsStock options and MIP (Manager Incentive Program)

ConsMilitaristic, the company does not care about your career goals and aspirations, they put you where they need you, and that can be in any department or geographical locations.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn how to be leaders and listen to the goals of your employers.

UPS has alot to offer, you just have to be wiling to make lots of personal sacrifice.

    Business Manager (Former Employee)
    Las Vegas, NV

ProsUPS is more than 100 years old. They are an industry leader. They have solid internal processes. You will learn alot about managing in a high performance environment.

ConsUPS has to be your first, second and third priority in life. Any time you have left over...if any...is for everything else in your life. If you like to feel appreciated for your efforts, don't come here. Appreciation is recieved on the 26th of the month when your salary is deposited. For some that is enought. Also, remember this is a company whose rank & file are represented by the Teamsters Union. Be ready to play that game.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo a better job of informing your managers and supervisors about the reasons for the decisions you make. They will understand and be better prepared to carry out your plan. I know UPS has been working hard to change its culture of management through fear and intimidation...but that change is not coming fast enough.
