I worked at UPS part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Big name to put on your resume. Nationwide... Perhaps other centers are better? Reasonably stable company.

    Cons

The center I worked at had a very negative cultural climate. No matter how fair you tried to be it was "us vs them." As a part-time preload supervisor I was told that my job was to get a "fair day's work for a fair day's pay" out of my union workers. What that boiled down to was the management trying to squeeze every last minute of work out of the hourly union workers, while they on the other hand looked for any opportunity to bring a grievance against the management. Both the preloaders and the drivers took every opportunity to make snyde antagonistic comments against the management often peppered with colorful language. There was a palpable sense of enmity between the two sides. Preload hours are miserable... around 2:30 am until 10:00ish.

    Advice to Management

Somehow you must win the union over to your side or they will fight you at every step.

I have been working at UPS part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very helpful supervisors who maintain a high standard, sometimes it feels like something good is accomplished

    Cons

Many complainers, much of which is warranted, very few opportunities besides driving which is such a good job drivers stay until retirement, certain supervisors enjoy yelling, never saying what was done well. No one is 100% wrong all of the time but that is the perception. Talk about safety but they do little to manifest.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the bad apples. The job is hard enough without irrational screaming.

I worked at UPS part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and you don't really have to show up for work every day if your not in management.

    Cons

Corporate is trying to push beyond the limits of human capabilities and holding lower management responsible for meeting unreasonable goals.

    Advice to Management

Go back to worrying about the people and the customers not the numbers.

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. There is a 20 word minimum in this "Pros" section box, so I have added this sentence due to UPS offering nothing else.

    Cons

Employees are nothing but a tool to be abused. Work life balance will not exist. 10 hour days minimal, have to ask for an 8 hour day ahead of time. You could skip your breaks and lunch to try to get done early only to be told to go help another driver for another hour or more. If you don't mind being unable to make plans after work m-f, and never seeing your family, this job is for you.

    I worked at UPS full-time

    Pros

UPS as a brand is great, some of the best people you will work with

    Cons

Management is horrible, no room to grow, dead end. You don't get to use any skills, and you don't get to learn new ones,

    Advice to Management

get new management, rotate them or something, terrible, lots of " this is how we have always done it" no way to move up, stuck at whatever level you come in, unless you are school friends with someone who has been there forever
