UPS TSG Field Technician:   (Past Employee - 2009)

Pros

Great pay, clear understanding of duties, great benefits....overall great place to work.

Cons

Too much time chasing numbers which constantly causes policies and procedures to change. EXTREMELY caught up in number chasing on performance, cost, etc. (Sometimes to make numbers go down, other numbers go up...numbers don't mean everything.)

Advice to Senior Management

Too much time chasing numbers which constantly causes policies and procedures to change. EXTREMELY caught up in number chasing on performance, cost, etc. (Sometimes to make numbers go down, other numbers go up...numbers don't mean everything.) Focus on customer/employee satisfaction and you will get much more in return.

UPS

Pros

Real part time work
Good start off pay
Paid Weekly
Flexible scheduling for students, parents or those with a second job
Tuition assistance or vouchers

Cons

Treated as if you are beneath anyone who is salary paid
No real leadership aboard to take initiative to run things right

Advice to Senior Management

To take management classes to learn the appropriate way to not only operate their workload but to also learn the proper way to speak with or to employees that is not demeaning

UPS Unloader:   (Past Employee - 2009)

Pros

most immediate supervisors are nice. they shift generally goes pretty fast because you are constantly doing work. pay is good enough.

Cons

upper management can be a bit pushy. you are never unloading fast enough or safe enough for them. fine other than that.

Advice to Senior Management

understand that all people can not unload at the same pace. some people are stronger and faster than others. that's about it.

UPS User Support Specialist in Morristown, NJ:   (Past Employee - 2009)

Pros

Benefits are comparable. Feedback is fairly accurate and very timely. You can learn a great deal and they train their employees very well. Great place to do a internship.

Cons

The culture seems somewhat laid back but do not be fooled because management watches you like a hawk. They are time clock slaves. The pay is lower than industry standard. If you decide to stick around for the long haul then be prepared to move because positions need to open in order to be promoted. Someone above you will have to leave, retire or be promoted in order for you to move up no matter how qualified you are. They recently made their specialist hourly employees.

UPS Part Time Package Handler:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Same hours every day, GREAT tuition reimbursement program, okay pay, excellent health benefits (kick in after a year), easy to get hired. Perfect job for college students or people who just need an extra job.

Cons

Not a lot of flexibility in hours and days off. They will expect you to be there every single day and not to be late. Some supervisors are more flexible than others. The job can be monotonous, since you will probably be doing the same thing every day. Also, if you can't lift 70 pounds, don't bother applying. It takes a year for health benefits and paid vacation to kick in.

Advice to Senior Management

1 year is a long time to wait for benefits to kick in. Offer more incentives to get employees to work harder and be on time (besides firing them)

UPS Anonymous:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Medical job benefits, its like getting paid to go to the gym, lots of room for advancement, and hopefully hard work will pay off.

Cons

low starting pay, i would have liked to worked a different shift hours but i know over time i can request a change.

Advice to Senior Management

Better starting pay would be nice. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

UPS Senior Technician in Providence, RI:   (Past Employee - 2007)

Pros

The benefit of working at UPS is simply that, the benefits. A great overall package consisting of medical, dental, 401k match and an employee stock purchase plan were the main offerings. The work environment is great for a recent college graduate that can dedicate a good deal of time to their career. Those who can put in the hours are generally given a preference and the opportunity to develop.

Cons

If you're an hourly employee at UPS you can pretty much expect to work a standard 40 hour work week, but if you are a salaried employee watch out, you'll be working the extra hours to complete things the hourly employees couldn't get done. Very difficult to advance in departments outside of the core operations due the number of people competing for the position and the length of time between an available opening.

Advice to Senior Management

Spend a few weeks with your employees that are just behind the front lines and get a feel for what they are doing day to day for you.

UPS Loader:   (Current Employee)

Overall good

Pros

Good pay and benefits. Upward mobility within company is pretty good for areas with growing markets. Teamsters union is a good union.

Cons

Hard work, management attempts to break union rules. Upward mobility is difficult in stagnant or shrinking markets. Positive feedback is scarce.

Advice to Senior Management

More positive feedback to hourlies. Take Supervisors working grievances seriously and require full time supervisors to have a college degree.
