I have been working at UPS full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

working for UPS was fun, i enjoyed 95 percent of my job.

    Cons

5 percent of what i had to do wasn't any fun.. i guess that's why they call it a job..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

operations management is brutal on employees for the most part, however other divisions of UPS were great.

I worked at UPS part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Really good benefits package, daily workouts at the gym are not necessary, union reps were knowledgeable and approachable and management was willing to work around the VTA schedule.

    Cons

Management could be overbearing at times, peak season was very hectic and busy and very short half time break made it hard to use the bathroom or to get a bite to eat for a snack.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give individual a chance that sincerely wish to change their lives for the better, and Employment is the 1st step in that process? If your company is unwilling to hire someone because of past mistakes,You condemn them to a bleak & dire future?

I have been working at UPS part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Starting pay is $10 an hour, I've only worked for this company 14 months and I already make $12.50.
Hours are perfect for anyone going to school or who has a second job.
Lower management (i.e. supervisors) is always friendly and willing to help out.
    Safe work environment
    Keeps you in shape.

    Cons

    Very physically challenging job.
Higher management loves to put everything off til the last minute.
Can take quite some time to move up in the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop making "safety" rules that slow down the process then getting angry at the workers for following them. Either I work safely or I load 500 packages per hour, but I can't do both.

    Pros

I'm very excited to have a part time job with better benefits than any full time job I have ever had.

    Cons

waking up early and being to work before 3 am is something to get used to. Balancing an on call job on top of UPS will be interesting.

Current Employee - Part Time Package Handler in Los Angeles, CA

I have been working at UPS part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Variety of work schedules available, excellent benefits for a part-time position, good if you want to move up from within.

    Cons

The work will put a strain on your body, just make sure that you pace yourself. Human Resources could also do a better job of communicating with employees when they put in requests for transfers, for example I was not granted an educational transfer even after completing all the required steps. I had to be the one advocating for myself and I didn't really get much help from HR when I needed them most.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring back the In-n-Out trucks and reward the package handlers with simple things like pizza or some food every now and then.
