I worked at UPS full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great people, decent pay.

    Cons

You have to show your dedication to the company, not the other way around. You work hard for them 100% of the time and hope one day you will get it in return.

UPS Seasonal Driver Helper gig is a physically demanding, fast paced baptism-by-fire with the respected logistics firm

I worked at UPS part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

great work environment with a professional firm dedicated to a workforce culture of diversity and employee self empowerment.

    Cons

physically demanding work is not for the timid as it can be difficult adjusting to a work environment with a high probability that there will be exposure to the elements, especially during the Christmas/New Year season in north america

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

i came away from my experience with a deeper appreciation of how this industry giant runs as a well-oiled, fine-tuned machine. i only wish it was easier to be rehired as a seasonal helper each holiday season.

I have been working at UPS

    Pros

    Challenging environment
    Learn something new everyday
    Great management experience
    Pretty good pay!
    Looks good on a resume!

    Cons

Union and management conflict is constant
You can be told that you have a promotion and someone can take it right out from under you (7 months of working toward it through MAPP process)
Company pays union employees so much that in management, after 5 years, you are asking yourself what was I thinking going into management
The stress is not worth the money and it is evident in full time managers that they hate their jobs

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to corporate: start thinking about how to improve the quality of life that is provided for management employees. I wanted so badly to go far in this company but the people in the positions above me seemed so unhappy that I am finally choosing another career path.

I have been working at UPS

    Pros

The benifits are great for being part time. No experience required. OK union. Friendly coworkers who answer questions.

    Cons

Not any training. You learn on the job. Supervisors are kind of airheads but they are nice for the most part. Part time for now

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get better tow motors. Clean the place up a little bit. Give better training to new employees. Don't use the announcement system because we can't understand you anyway

I worked at UPS full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, fair pay, and good people

    Cons

Upper level management does not do an active job of solving revenue-limiting problems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to your lowest level of employees. You emulate the military in so many ways. The military now makes great efforts to collect feedback from the lowest levels. It will save you money if you do the same. Some of your processes limit revenue because of unnecessary bureaucracy. Also, risk aversion is great, but relax a little. And ADVERTISE MORE OF YOUR SERVICES.
