    Pros

Strong Company with the ability to transfer to different facilities, The building I work in has great hard-working people, management strives to be fair. Good benefits package, including 56 hrs personal time 3 weeks vac. after 5 yrs, and 4 weeks vac after 10 years.

    Cons

daily start and finish times vary depending on production levels. may work 12 hrs one day and 5 or six hrs. the next.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Working environment is your responsibility. Employee Morale is your responsibility. Liven up employee meetings, encourage don't discourage.

    Pros

Solid company, Great facilities, minimal layoffs. You can learn a lot about business and how to do a lot of things correctly. You can move around the company rather easily to learn new skills and/or jobs.

    Cons

Really tough place for minorities and women to advance. Pay is usually below industry average and the company recognizes this, but will not make a change. No real room for advancement in this company. They work the pants off of you with little to no recognition.

Finally, this is truly a 'good ol boys' network. You will find white males with less credentials & education consistently promoted and put into leadership positions over minorities. If you are lucky enough to be one of the few 'chosen' minorities which they want to push, you can do decent (I was that minority), but the closer you get to some situations & management the more you see the disparity and unfairness.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is nothing to share. Management knows how tough of a place this can be to work if you are not a traditional UPSer, minority or if you decide to not be a 'Yes Man'.

    Pros

Good health care benefits, good parking, good cafeteria. Good place to be if you are young and want to wait about ten years until everyone above you retires so you can get a promotion. Great job stability.

    Cons

Constant micro-management. Low pay compared to same jobs elsewhere. UPS treats its employees as if they are about 12 years old. Forget about getting a promotion unless you want to wait ten years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No point giving them advise. That is just it, nobody listening.

    Pros

There are some incredibly talented people who work for UPS - and it has a certain level of name recognition

    Cons

No opportunities for advancement. People don't leave, so no upward mobility. Management may state that development is important, but they do not live that statement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Exceptional employees will continue to leave if there is no development. Saying that you value your employees means nothing if you do nothing to help us develop or worse, put the needs of your individual "kingdoms" ahead of what is best for the company in the long-term.

    Pros

    Benefits are great
    Type of work in interesting
People on the floor are good
    Work schedule in good

    Cons

Management team think they are only ones that know anything but depend on the people to tell them what they need to know instead of spending time on floor. They sit in the front office demanding information. Don't know what the jobs on the floor really require of an employee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management team needs to spend more time on the floor, they need to know what the jobs under them really does none of them know how to do the job that they supervise.

    Pros

The office is in a nice location north of Atlanta making for a nice commute to those living in the 'burbs.

    Cons

Heavily silo'd. The Peter Principle is alive and well here. Promotions based on longevity and tenure instead of qualifications and skillset. New managers with absolutely no experience with current technologies being implemented are making decisions without the input and advice from experienced consultants. Arrongance is their strong suit.
I spent the first 3 weeks there with NOTHING TO DO, first 2 weeks I didn't even have access to any system. I was begging for work but new group manager felt he could do it all, while expecting me to train him to my level of experience. No team communication for first 2 months. It was lonely and boring until manager realized he couldn't do the work himself and was forced to engage me.
I could not get out of there fast enough.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you hire someone based on their experience, listen to them.

    Pros

Stable company, they are growing some. Pay and benefits are ok.

    Cons

8+ years, no promotion.... UPS isn't a place to grow a career. It is next to impossbile to get fired, so you are not working with the best people which results in micro management regardless of your performance. There is no technical training or industry certification. They believe that they will have to pay you more, or you will leave for more money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your people. Train and pay accordingly.
