I have been working at URS Corporation

    Pros

I like working the 9/80 shift getting every other Friday off. Education was highly encouraged. I was able to get my MBA paid for and completed while working at URS.

    Cons

I wish I had a better connection with different supervisors so I could've gotten more experience in different areas. It all goes back to networking. If people know you and like how you work you can have many opportunities.

I worked at URS Corporation as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Consider that I am speaking as a college intern. Lots of people to learn and connect with if you have the personality. Many people working on different projects, and if your passionate, you can learn all their jobs if you ask for some of their old work.

    Cons

You can just be another cog in the machine.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Engage interns in more training

    Pros

The pay is decent. The health insurance is a lot better than the company prior to it. very safety conscious, but sometimes overboard.

    Cons

There is a lot of mismanagement depending on what contract you are on. its hard to drive change within the company as a lower level employee. The promotion process needs to be revamped.

I worked at URS Corporation full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

If you're desperate, and URS makes an offer, take it and feel free to continue searching. They would do the same to you. It's a very large company, though, so if you want to build a bridge or an office complex, you can definitely drop your expectations and look for those lines of work.

    Cons

No loyalty to employees; they don't know what to do with IT professionals, since they're really a large-project construction firm.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set up a separate business unit to handle IT contracts, and listen to the qualified IT managers who work there. Avoid losing these personnel; they're very valuable even if for no other purpose than qualifying for other IT contracts.
