    Pros

Cool Work, great people, all federal holidays, relaxed environment. Good place to get your foot in the door for defense contracting.

    Cons

There is no upward mobility available. You pretty much have to wait until somebody dies or retires before you will ever have the slightest hint of a promotion.

    Pros

Most clients are great to work with. As a consultant there is a wide variety of clients to work for. Time management is a must. Overall it's good place to work on a variety of projects.

    Cons

Lack of room for advancement. Office politics vary greatly even between divisions. Watch out for managers significantly under estimated the time associated with some tasks. I wouldn't recommend making a career out of working for URS.

    Advice to Management

Consider promoting from within. There is a lot of preaching about working with multiple offices however, when it comes down to the budgets it's a nightmare for jobs to be shared.

    Pros

Plenty of good people to work with

    Cons

Large bureaucratic organization, slow to move and change. All URS corporate leadership positions were eliminated in the acquisition, so unsure of the new corporate culture. Change in culture could lead to excessive turnover and loss of good people.

    Advice to Management

Improve communication, focusing on the truth and honest intentions instead of repeating the same corporate message meant to fit all about how the acquisition is a growth opportunity.

    Pros

Very good engineers and experts to work with, good work environment and people. Big and interesting projects, delivering quality products to the clients. Standard benefits.

    Cons

Very very slow advancement, training is not great. Must be very close to management for advancement... Old boys club in many ways. Standard benefits.

    Pros

The Crude drivers are great to work with. Great training even though only 2 had a years experience.

    Cons

Spent 3 weeks in a motel at a remote location, mismanaged & lack of work. Paid $700 for the 3 weeks. After returning they changed perdiem mileage etc and discovered the $700 was my entire income for almost a month. They hire saying they pay holiday pay. Later you discover the holiday pay is after 1 year. So working those holidays pays just like a regular work day.

    Advice to Management

They preach do the right thing. After the fact, I find out I drove 1400 mi, shuffled the other employees in my personal vehicle to and from work twice a day. Stayed in a hotel away from home for weeks, missed being home for 2 holidays for approx $200 week.

    Pros

Big company. Some stability. Some online training stuff for project management. Not a functional multi disciplined engineering unit where I was located.

    Cons

To much overhead. To many forms. To much process. Bottom of the barrel firm for semi functional engineers.

    Advice to Management

    Read some books or something.

    Pros

Decent salary pay, paid vacation and sick time.

    Cons

A strictly business attitude is required at all times. You're not supposed to have friends at workplace that may occasionally drop by for a few minutes a couple times a week. Employees and management have poor communication between each other. Management treats you like a minion. You are expected to work over 50 hours most of the time. If you work the 40 hour minimum you are looked at as not putting in any effort. Basically, you have to sell your soul and life to your job. If you are not stressed out out of your mind, you need more work. Supervisor tried to stress everyone out on purpose saying "it makes people work harder".

    Advice to Management

Maybe you should encourage relationships. People work better with each other when they like each other. When you hire employees don't tell them to hours are 8am-5pm when you expect 6am-6pm.

    Pros

I worked in Downtown Anchorage and walked to work.

    Cons

In-experienced Project Management. Scheduled Project deliverables on an unrealistic time basis.

    Advice to Management

Get better people in your Management Structure. Your PM's don't have Design experience and should not be calling the design decisions.
