I have been working at URS Corporation full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Collaborative work environment where ideas are and improvements are encouraged. Benefits, while consistent with the market, have been scaled back over past few years, but still in line with similar companies in the market sector.

    Cons

Economic environment and government budget challenges create some uncertainty, but the company always overcomes these challenges.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve cross divisional moves and opportunities within the company to retain top talent.

    Pros

Ability to interact directly with clients, very good stability since the company is so big. People you work with are down to earth.

    Cons

Not too much vertical growth if you are a younger employee. A lot of upper management are there because they are connected with other employees. For the difficulty of work, not too many monetary perks.

I have been working at URS Corporation full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities within the company and all internal job openings (throughout the world) are posted weekly. A good amount of independence and ability to manage your own work.

    Cons

Annual raises are minimal, health benefits have recently gone downhill, holidays just went from 10 to 9. Employee recognition is minimal.

    Pros

I have been working at URS Corporation full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lower management and peers are very dedicated, collegial people to work with. I enjoy the projects I have worked on and the clients I have worked for.

    Cons

There is no work-life balance, little opportunity to take a vaction or enjoy personal time. Upper management is disengaged from the working level employees and the day to day aspects of the business. There has not been much in the form of development or upward mobility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get in touch with your employees, treat the employees with greater respect, realize that in order to get the best from an employee s/he must have vacations and space for personal and family needs.

Current Employee - Senior Systems Administrator in Washington, DC
Current Employee - Senior Systems Administrator in Washington, DC

I have been working at URS Corporation full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Lots of potential opportunities, if you can get in on them or at least know about them, and a good work/life balance.

    Cons

A bit too big. Poor communication from senior and middle management to field employees. Tends to be somewhat bureaucratic - like working for a 'private' government. Decent benefits, though those have gone down-hill from what they used to be. Also tends to be, or at least feels like, it is everyone for themselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate career opportunities and training benefits to field/off-site employees. Loosen up on the bureaucracy. There are lots of good, talented employees who would do well if they knew potential mobility options available to them.
