Human Resources

Human Resources (Current Employee)

I have been working at URS full-time for more than 3 years

ProsInteresting work with global opportunities.

ConsNot a people company. Benefits below average and "way below market"! Recent reductions to employee benefits void any pro's company may have. H&W cost pushed onto employees (30% employees contribution) 401K company match at 3%max. For a global company who markets employee knowledge and experience they don't seem to take care of their employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to review current business model. Pinching employees to pay more for benefits in order to meet financial projections is a long term business killer. Retaining your talent is not only important but a must to survive in this industry.

dysfunctional and doomed to continue failures

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at URS full-time

Prosbest reason to work at URS: if you enjoy futility

Consunintelligent and misguided leading the blind; heavy office politics; horrible management at multiple tiers; uncaring and treats staff as a cold commodity

Advice to Senior Managementquit and take other managers with you

Promised there was work, left another company to come here, and laid off after 5 weeks when projects were shut down.

Project Information Management (Former Employee)
Denver, CO

I worked at URS full-time for less than a year

ProsNice work environment. Employees were caring and concerned about my welfare after I was laid off.

ConsBefore hiring someone permanent, make sure there are long-term projects. Don't guesstimate based on past experience. In the five weeks I was there, saw supervisor twice and that was on the day I started.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure there are long-term projects before hiring. I left a long-term position with good pay and good benefits to come to this company. This ruined my life when I was laid off! Still haven't found a job!

Employer does not care about its employees

EHS (Former Employee)
Ontario, CA

I worked at URS full-time for more than a year

ProsThere are no Pros working for this company.

ConsThis company only wants employees to remember two words, Sold Time and Billable. This company does not care about any loyalty to its employees. Big turn over of employees across the country, at URS.

Advice to Senior ManagementUpper management needs to get rid of some of the top management employees who are making over 195K per year, and do not add any value to the company, then perhaps the lower end employees would not have to use their vacation hours when they are not billable.

Recruited without billable work, little or no support for winning or delivering work, no interstate collaboration

Principal Engineer (Former Employee)
Adelaide (Australia)

I worked at URS full-time for more than a year

ProsReported to look after staff well in the good times. Good at delivering large EPCM jobs for large clients.

ConsPoor regional and local management. Little penetration of market beyong large clients with large jobs. Colossal corporate overheads makes it difficult to win work. Unable to build relationships with some local clients with money to spend.

Advice to Senior ManagementReduce overheads by trimming Quality Assurance, health and safety, human resources and in particular unmanaged recruiters who add little or no value and mess up peoples lives by recruiting people when there is no work for them

Could be better

Tubing Inspection (Current Employee)
Lloydminster, SK (Canada)

I have been working at URS full-time for more than a year

ProsVery slack, will let you get away with same excuses over and over.

ConsRandom hours, unorganized, ignorant and lazy. No accountability. Too many people "in charge"

Advice to Senior ManagementDo what's right and pay attention.
