I worked at US Agricultural Research Service as a contractor (More than 3 years)

Great company to work for. They provide good benefits, great work hours and flexibility, and a positive working environment. Some locations are very actively involved with giving back to their communities and they all support their staff in giving /volunteering during natural disasters.

High placement of specific fields in term appointments with no equivalent full time permanent positions within the organization. In addition, you are required to have prior experience in federal service to get a permanent placement but you cannot when your field is not one of the fields that is coded for in federal service. The USDA-ARS useS molecular biologists extensively as post doctoral associates however there are very very few permanent position for molecular biologist within the USDA-ARS.

    Advice to Management

Make permanent positions available to molecular biologists. There is obviously a need for them within the USDA based on the number of molecular biologist post doctoral associates hired every year.
