Pros
Benefits are amazing
Competitive, steady pay for young new officers
Tightknit community
Cons
Loads and loads of government red tape and beaurocracy - this is what I hate worst about it.
If you find out you don't like the job you can't just quit - you must ride out your commitment time.
**Job specific** As an intel officer, I sit in front of a computer nearly all day in a building without windows. Worst. Feeling. Ever.
Advice to Senior Management
Certain leadership needs to eat more humble pie. But that goes with every large corporation structure I suppose.
Pros
Great training and job advancement. Co-workers were great in a team atmosphere. Supervisors were fair, gave feedback often and promotions were equitable. Great job satisfaction throught 20 year career
Cons
Moved every three years, mostly good places. Very selective to get in and getting more and more selective to make a career out the AF.
Advice to Senior Management
The Air Force tends to foster the implicit promise of job security. Yet year after year, the AF personnel system can not seem to manage the force correctly, ending with a reduction in force.
Pros
It's rewarding to serve for our country. There are many perks such as a plethora of programs that you could use and take advantage of.
Cons
The ranking system is a good one but there are ways for people to slip through the cracks when they need to be addressed with a boot to the butt. The hours and the last minute calls into work can take a toll.
Pros
Great benefits
See different places
Learn skills that you can use anywhere
Mostly work with great people
Good environment to get to know your co-workers
Cons
If you don't like to move, too bad
Plenty of places you don't want to go to
Times where people abuse their rank/authority
May do more than your primary job, including grunt work
Advice to Senior Management
Talk to your people more. Don't always try and change things. If it's not broke, it does not need to be fixed.
Pros
great benefits and pay, great opportunities to travel.
Cons
Timeline for waiting for leadership opportunities to open up. Subject to gov shutdowns or force reduction.
Advice to Senior Management
nothing significant to offer for advice
Pros
Excellent benefits for the servicemembers..
Cons
Must work one weedend each month.
Pros
A cool job. The lower levels (esp tactical units) are full of great people doing incredible work. Demanding, lots of travel, high tempo with merit-based advancement. Mission hackers welcome.
Cons
Upper leaders are generally politically paralyzed. "More with less" for the units will remain the theme for some years to come.
Advice to Senior Management
End political correctness. Present the best military advice to the DoD instead of thinking about politics first. Be more upfront with Airmen -- happy slogans are not credible when you're living at 1:1 dwell.
Pros
USAF takes care of you. Benefits, family, care, and all that jazz.
Cons
USAF can also not take care of you. Do you research prior to getting involved. Might be stuck doing something you didnt want to do.
Pros
Very good leadership. Great salary, compensation and working conditions. Opportunities to see the world. Great community support. Close knit families and programs for familes.
Cons
Budget cuts and drawdowns due to Federal deficit make the Air Force like many companies - not a place where you can count on staying for 25 years or more. Remote assigments mean you might be separated from your family for a year or more.
Advice to Senior Management
Great job considering you have to respond to the whims of Congress and the President, Pentagon and the changing political landscape not to mention new and constant threats to our national security. .
Pros
Hours, location, communication, and variation in cognative challenges.
Cons
Departments getting know the others.
Advice to Senior Management
Encourage your people to get to know each other. Support the development of minority officers, enlisted and civilians.
