I worked at US Air Force full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The job satisfaction is high when you apply your knowledge and lead by example. Those working for you are more likely to follow someone they feels knows what they are talking about and has their back.

    Cons

The biggest cons are the lack of choice in assignments and deployments. Service before self can be difficult at times especially when families are involved.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be as hesitant in giving subordinates responsibility, and a chance to succeed or the opportunity to learn from their mistakes

I have been working at US Air Force full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Exceptional benefits including travel pay and medical. Superior training and leadership roles right out of the gate.

    Cons

Travel can be excessive during tumultuous times- I am away from home 3-9 months of most years at the moment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The care the USAF and leadership have for families are exceptional- without this level of sincerity, the USAF would not have the same high-quality personnel remaining. Thank you.

I have been working at US Air Force full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

While perhaps trite...many individuals join the military to "see the world"...and I was no exception. As luck would have it, I was selected to serve as a Navigator for the KC-135 air refueler and did get the opportunity to travel the world to locations I never would have seen otherwise. From the challenges of completing flight training to integration with a four-man crew, it was simply one adventure after another. In addition to travel, I was able to take advantage of military education benefits to complete two masters degrees. Finally, the chance to lead other military professionals will always remain one of my fondest memories.

    Cons

Military life often prevents you the opportunity to put down roots in any single physical location. While it's exciting to meet new people and discover different parts of the country and world, it also means having to say goodbye to friends on a regular basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your personnel to do the right thing, but be consistent with messaging from the top-down. It is frustrating to find out about policy changes or new procedures well after the fact.
